  • MSI GT780R Gaming Notebook Tested - The MSI GT780R is a fine notebook overall with a bright and responsive screen, fast quad core CPU and RAID-0 storage. Sadly it gets caught short by its anemic GTX560M (closer to the desktop GTS450) and could not really handle 1080p DX11 gameplay. Newer games like Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 will be more enjoyable on the MSI GT780R with moderate 720p graphic settings. Considering that it has a bulky 17-inch chassis and weighs almost 4KG (including the power adapter) to carry around, we can't help but feel slightly disappointed it couldn't be better.
  • Thailand floods cause hard drive prices to soar - Reuters is reporting that hard drive makers have increased prices for their products by as much as 40 percent. Hard drive factories are from companies like Western Digital are being shut down due to the floods in Thailand. The end result is that hard drive inventories are disappearing here in the US, not just from big PC makers like Dell and HP but most likely from your local computer store as well. Interestingly, NetGear, claims that hard drive distributors are using the floods as an excuse to increase hard drive prices by more than double their normal amount.. Yeah...this effected my projects about a week ago :-(
  • Bulldozer Chip Overclocked to 8.1 GHz at LITS 2011 - check it out!
  • ARM unleashes ARMv8 64-bit architecture - ARM this week disclosed technical details of its new ARMv8 architecture, the first ARM architecture to include a 64-bit instruction set. ARMv8 broadens the ARM architecture to embrace 64-bit processing and extends virtual addressing, building on the rich heritage of the 32-bit ARMv7 architecture upon which market leading cores such as the Cortex-A9 and Cortex-A15 processors are built.
  • Windows 8 verification causing problems for PC makers? - Looks like Windows 8 will use OEM Activation 3.0 (OA 3.0) and as a result PC manufacturers are reportedly saying it will take longer to install the OS into PCs and therefore cost them money. Windows 7 and older versions of Microsoft's operating system use a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label that is normally slapped on notebook PCs and included on new desktops PCs as part of the packaging. Users type in the number on the COA label when they use a new PC for the first time to activate Windows. Windows 8, on the other hand, will install the activation key inside the OS's UEFI firmware. This means that PC makers will have to take more time and give every new PC with Windows 8 more individual attention than Windows 7 PCs, where a PC makers could simply stick on the COA label.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack 3 released -  Microsoft has released the third and final service pack for its Microsoft Office 2007 productivity suite. Service Pack 3 will be the last major update to Windows Office 2007 as official support is set to be retired by April 2012, although Microsoft might release some minor patch updates between now and then. Service Pack 3 contains all of the fixes and improvements contains in the first two packs so there's no need to download them anymore.
  • Google TV gets Honeycomb, Android apps - first look - Google's smart TV software platform, Google TV, is poised for its first significant overhaul since it launched in Logitech and Sony hardware a year ago. Via over-the-air updates that should begin streaming to hardware devices on October 30, Google TV users will find new TV-optimized Android Apps, an improved YouTube experience, and new features that provide easy, direct discovery of TV and movie content.
  • Siri ported to iPod touch and iPhone 4 - The hack requires a jailbroken device. By copying the app onto the device, the iPhone 4 can call up Siri and, more important, connect to the Siri servers
  • Apple engineers contacting iPhone 4S owners to solve battery life puzzle - Short battery life may be affected by corrupted contact details or background services - but solutions vary widely, and Siri apparently not to blame
  • A smartphone that runs Windows 8 is in the works - The China-based company In Technology Group (ITG) has just announced plans to release the xpPhone 2, a smartphone that it claims can run both of Microsoft's PC operating systems. Make no mistake - this is a big phone. It has a 4.3 inch touch screen, a 1.6 Ghz processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 112 GB of hard drive space. It's basically a mini-PC that seems to think its a smartphone. You might think this kind of hardware configuration would drop battery time down to almost nothing but ITG claims that the xpPhone 2 has 18.5 hour of continuous talk time. The big question: Is this phone for real?
  • C3 Google Maps on Steroids: Realistic 3D City Models - Apple has reportedly bought Sweden based C3 Technologies which has developed a 3D photo-realistic mapping product that has the potential to blow away the current version of Google Maps. C3 Technologies provides photo-realistic 3D city visualization solutions for the search, navigation and geographic information systems industries. The flagship product Realistic 3D City Models provides large web map publishers, as well as innovative location-based services companies precise 3D maps as a platform for new social and commercial applications.
  • Time Twister - LEGO Mindstorms Digital Clock - check it out
  • Online hackers threaten to expose cartel's secrets - An international group of online hackers is warning a Mexican drug cartel to release one of its members, kidnapped from a street protest, or it will publish the identities and addresses of the syndicate's associates, from corrupt police to taxi drivers, as well as reveal the syndicates' businesses.
  • John Stalberg's Very Trippy VFX Reel for Sci-Fi Project 'Limbo' - A very trippy VFX test reel for a new project from up-and-coming filmmaker John Stalberg Jr. was found by Movies.com today, and it's definitely something to see.
  • Shark Pool: Official Trailer -  There's a shark in the pool. But it's a really nice pool...
  • New TV Spot for Fincher's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - A journalist is aided in his search for a woman who'd been missing, or dead, for forty years, by a young female hacker, played in this one by Rooney Mara. Based on Stieg Larsson's Millennium series of novels. Sony is bringing Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to theaters on December 21st, right before Christmas.
  • First full trailer for Mission Impossible 4 - Definitely looking forward to seeing his first live action work.
  • Smashing Pumpkins - 1000 FPS (video) - check it out

Correct. Artificial price manipulation is a no-go, so a class-action lawsuit shall follow.

Cool. It's much easier to hack. Actually, it's already done.
