The December Steam hardware survey shows that the GeForce GTX 970 is now the most popular GPU -
Steam has just updated its hardware and software survey as of December 2015 and it shows that there’s a new favorite graphics card among PC gamers who use the store: Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 970.
Seagate Unveils 10TB Helium Enterprise Drive -
The new, robust 10TB Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD
provides maximum storage capacity for easy system integration by using the standard 3.5-inch CMR design. Incorporating seven platters and 14 heads, the drive seals in helium to create a turbulence-free, quiet environment, decreasing both friction and resistance on the platters and delivering the industry's lowest power/TB ratio and weight specifications for a 10TB HDD. Offering 25 percent more density to help businesses dramatically increase petabytes per rack, the drive delivers higher performance and reduced power and weight.
Microsoft will not support older Windows versions on upcoming PC hardware -
While consumers are quicker to upgrade their hardware and software, businesses are usually more conservative, and the process can take years, the new Microsoft is not that patient.
The company has changed hardware requirements for supporting
older versions of Windows, by only supporting new silicon on Windows 10 moving forward. That being said, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will continue to receive updates through January 14, 2020 and January 10, 2023 respectively, and Microsoft is offering to help enterprises in the transition to Windows 10, by creating a list of "specific new Skylake devices we will support to run Windows 7 and Windows 8.1" through July 17, 2017.
Microsoft Makes Skype Accessible from Outlook Mobile -
Microsoft has updated Outlook for iOS with new Skype integration. Outlook already merges email and calendar functionality into one app. Now, users can make any calendar appointment a Skype meeting with the flick of a switch. When the meeting starts, a simple tap in the calendar app will start the Skype call. The refreshed Outlook app also gains a new three-day calendar view. Outlook for iOS is free to download from the iTunes App Store. Microsoft didn't immediately say if or when it might add Skype to the Android version of Outlook.
Apple's iOS 9.3 Targets Education -
Apple has released
a beta of iOS 9.3
and revealed that the system update will bring new features to education. This version of iOS 9.3 is chiefly for developers. It I ntroduces several new classroom-friendly features, such as the ability for students to sign into any iPad (rather than just one), and a new classroom app for teachers to use for managing their students and assignments. Further, iOS 9.3 brings more control over iOS to school admins, who will be able to create and manage school-specific Apple IDs on various devices, as well as manage the hardware deployed within the school district. iOS 9.3 also tweaks Apple Health, Apple News, and Apple Notes. The update introduces Night Shift, a mode that begins to reduce the amount of blue light throughout the OS during the evening hours in order to help assist with sleeping. (Google's book reading app does something similar.) The revised platform improves CarPlay with more Apple Musiuc features, as well. Apple hasn't said when it might release iOS 9.3 to the general public. Apple also released new betas of tvOS, watchOS, and OS X.
Apple Addresses WiFi Assist with Data Counter -
Apple has added a small feature to WiFi Assist in iOS 9.3 that displays how much cellular data the tool is using. WiFi Assist forces iPhones off of weak WiFi signals in favor of stronger cellular data signals. It was added to iOS to combat slow network performance when iPhones doggedly remained connected to crummy WiFi even when strong LTE was available. Some users have complained, however, that they ran up large cellular bills by surfing over LTE when they thought they were using WiFi. Now, WiFi Assist clearly shows how much cellular data has been consumed with the WiFi Assist function is turned on.
Lumia 950 Owners Get Free Office 365 Subscription -
Microsoft has said
owners of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL can snag a free one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal. The subscription, which has a retail value of about $70, gives users full access to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) on their Lumia smartphone as well as a companion PC/Mac computer. The subscription includes 1 TB of OneDrive storage, as well, for syncing documents online. In order to access the free subscription, Lumia owners need to download and install the Lumia Offers application from the Windows Store. Users are required to provide an email address. Microsoft didn't say how long the offer will be available.
Xiaomi Mi 5 spotted on retailer's website -
The phone will be available in three colors
(black, white, and gold), and the specifications should prove competitive with other flagship handsets on the way, including the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S
Sprint to Relocate Cell Sites In Bid to Cut Costs -
Sprint hopes
moving its radio infrastructure away from privately held companies to government-owned land and/or structures will help shave $1 billion in costs, reports Re/code. Sprint leases cell tower access from Crown Castle and American Tower, and lease rates are a significant part of it operational costs. The government does not charge as much for leases. Sprint is looking at a company called Mobilitie, from which it might lease cell site access, as well. Sprint may begin the effort as soon as June or July. Sprint is also planning to cut backhaul costs. Sprint largely relies on fiber from competitors AT&T and Verizon, says Re/code, and pays each company about $1 billion per year to manage some of its wired network traffic. Sprint is considering a switch to microwave technology for its backhaul needs so it won't have to rely so much on its competitors. Last, the company is expected to announce significant layoffs on January 22. Sprint has spoken of headcount reductions for months, and said the cuts would come by the end of January. Sprint did not comment on Re/code's story.

If Netflix does that they will recede back in terms of customers. Be funny since they just said they are spread now around the world. Let's face it, most people are getting Netflix for the USA content. Nobody gives a fuck about copyright/borders and people at least in Amerca have been extremely vocal about tearing those ancient borders down. If Netflix is giving up that fight, then I'll give up my membership as I am sure many others will do.

They're working to provide most content globally as well, but that seems to be left out in most reports. I guess it doesnt sell pageviews.

Its not enough or likely not enough to satisfy. Anything about it is vague as well. If Netflix does start killing VPN connectiosn, mark my words. Most will quit Netflix.

Yeah go ahead and treat your customer base like idiots because they try to circumvent your by-gone era REGION LOCKING BS! Most people do not want to be forced to watch content tided to their location: this has been the case for
DECADES!
Get with the facking times: we're a global village now seperated by milliseconds! Of course I don't remotely fault the common user to try to extend their purchasing dollar any way possible when they feel like their in a digital prison. Sorry, that genie is out of the bottle quite some time ago.
Yer just escalating a situation you helped create that you will now lose if you try to then curtail it. You built your Frankenstein monster, now learn to live with it or perish!
Nevertheless, Netflix and its ilk are wayy too slow for me: I use hosting sites that carry content faster, cheaper, and with farrrr greater global reach then any service could ever.
