  • Final DDR4 specification published - The final specification covering the replacement for DDR3 was only finalized today, though. The JEDEC group that oversees memory standards has published the DDR4 spec, which can be downloaded here. Registration is required to grab the 214-page PDF, but the highlights can be seen on this page of JEDEC's site.
  • Samsung 840 Pro SSD Review - The 840 Pro's file copy results are hard to explain. Its single large compressed file performance was mind-bogglingly good, while its multiple small non-compressed file performance was mind-bogglingly bad. Between those two extremes, the small and large compressed and uncompressed "game" test gave fairly standard results. The drive went on to perform very well in our game install and virus scan tests.
  • Nvidia sees bright future for cloud gaming - VentureBeat has an extensive interview with Eisler that reveals some interesting nuggests about the challenges facing cloud-based gaming and how Nvidia plans to combat them. Obviously, the speed of one's Internet connection is a big obstacle. Eisler figures a 5Mbps pipe is required to pump out 30 frames per second at 720p resolution. To get 60 FPS at 1080p, you'd need 15-20Mbps. Then there's the issue of latency, which Eisler says was over 250 milliseconds with first-generation cloud gaming implementations. The GeForce Grid-powered Gaikai service purportedly cuts latency down to a little over 160 ms, which most folks would still consider too laggy for traditional multiplayer games.
  • iCloud to drop former MobileMe users from 25GB to 5GB - Effective September 30, iCloud subscribers who saw their cushy MobileMe limit of 20GB grandfathered in will see that number reduced from a combined total of 25GB to a paltry 5GB.

Not the first time they are wrong.
Each hop adds 10s of milliseconds. So, the only way to minimize the lag is to get id of the hops. How do you get rid of the hops? You move the game closer to the gamer. That means, that your service provider will give you the cloud game.
But: do people really want cloud gaming? I don't.
Some might because that mean that your game is independent of platform and performance.
But, you'll not be able to play anywhere you want - which is a big deal for me as I am traveling most of the time.

Really? I didn't think back and forth from the looney bin would affect you.

Cloud gaming is a farce. The whole cloud whatever thing has been a catchphrase for awhile now. The only useful thing out of the whole rewording of things was the file storage and sharing. Problem with all that though is we already have ftp servers among other methods of sharing they just aren't called cloud sharing. Let's just rename a bunch of shit to make it sound catchy and pretend it's better.

Yep.
Service providers want to get paid when you share files so they make up stuff and try to convince you that you need it (much like Apple does with iPhone).
