  • Dual-Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu in Perfect Harmony - LifeHacker have put together a guide to dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
  • Microsoft Windows 7 download tool may have violated GPL - Microsoft tonight issued an update on the reports that the company used open source code in their Windows 7 USB/DVD tool, illegally. I originally reported earlier this week that Microsoft had pulled the tool after complaints by Rafael Rivera over some of the content of the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool.
  • Microsoft announces Exchange Server 2010 availability - Microsoft Business Division President Stephen Elop announced that Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 is now available worldwide. • Office 2010 Public Beta Leaked to BitTorrent - As can be expected, the public beta for Microsoft Office 2010 has been leaked to the web via BitTorrent a week before its expected unveiling. Both 32- and 64-bit versions are available with plenty of seeds. The build, numbered version 14.0.4514.1009, is tagged with the "beta 2" naming. • Google Chrome OS to launch within a week? - It is expected the the first release of Google OS will not run on standard laptop and desktop computers, but will run on set of Google OS endorsed devices such as select netbooks. Google has previously said they are working with Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba on the Chrome OS project. Only time will tell if this release rumor pans out, but if true the next week should be interesting if Google does in fact launch their operating system and how the technology community reacts to the new OS.
  • Bill Gates praises Steve Jobs for saving Apple -
  • YouTube to get high-def 1080p player - At the NewTeeVee Live conference on Thursday, YouTube director of product management Hunter Walk announced that the video-streaming service is getting a new high-quality streaming option: full HD, or '1080p' resolution. The current 'high-quality' option, when available on YouTube videos, is 720p, referring to the number of horizontal scan lines that make up the image. Walk said the new resolution, as well as a new full-screen player, will roll out to all users within days.
  • Most People Want Free Websites, TV and Music - New York magazine conducted an old fashioned sidewalk survey asking people what types of media they would pay for and how much:  Few of those polled are willing to pay for The New York Times. Asked whether they subscribe to the paper, 79 said no. Asked how much they would be willing to pay to read the paper online, 63 percent said "nothing." To the question of how charging a fee to read the paper online would affect The Times, 65 answered that it would make it less successful.

Normally, when light hits an object, it bounces off the surface and into the eye, making the object visible. The invisibility cloak made from 'meta-material' would work by 'grabbing hold' of light waves and making them flow smoothly around an object, in the same way that water in a river flows round a stick. Putting the cloak on would render the wearer invisible to the human eye.

Aaah! A agreement the good old big corporation-style : Hand over the cash !

OTOH, There's the good news, Hard disks become so big, that they'll probably die faster than you can fill them up and Youtube has been forced by legal institutions to serve higher resolution video's because investigation agencies have trouble with today low-res evidence, and the new Microsoft OS is able to be installed on a dual-boot system, and the latest greatest in America's terrible music history made a new video clip !!!!

Four times HOORAY for that !!

Pretty good summary

Why would you dual boot Linux and not just run a virtual machine of Linux on Windows 7? I also run Linux off a flash stick for that matter. With a vm you can keep snapshots and jump back to time periods easily.

Ozieo(05:07 PM CET - Nov,16 2009 )
Tom, a VM emulates a system with some crappy hardware components, you cannot compare a VM with a real environment performance- and option-wise.

A VM will always be much slower, Virtual Machines are good for trying things out, that's their main purpose.

Tom(07:27 PM CET - Nov,16 2009 )
I find no difficulty or speed problems with Linux in a VM Ozieo. I don't notice any slowness compared to a dedicated partition. I'm coding and compiling faster at home than I am at work on the servers. I can run anything and everything I was in the old days with a dedicated partition even my XFi works without issue in the VM. I guess if your PC is antiquated you might have slowness, but I'm quad core, 8gig ram and 3TB disk space in Raid. I can play games, alt tab and do stuff in Win7 and my VM works without a single hiccup. With a modern machine, I still don't believe Linux needs a dedicated partition. To me it's a hassle and a waste of physical disk space. Ozieo have you ever even used VMWare? VMWare is used heavily in test environments.

Ozieo(09:24 PM CET - Nov,16 2009 )
Yeah, I use(d) VMWare, no matter what famous video card your system has, VMWare emulates its own emulated graphics adapter which I have serious doubts you could play games on a VM, if you're talking about Sudoku or Mines or Cards games, than yes, I believe you.
