- Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 vs E8600 - Is
the cache worth it for most PC users ? Absolutely not !
Put the money in a faster GFX card, better CPU cooler etc... The price
difference is too big to justify the few gains you will get in real
world applications. With the first Core 2 Duo the 1Mb vs 2Mb vs 4Mb L2
cache was definitely more noticeable. Between 3 and 6mb the gap is
pretty small
- Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 Tested - Is this just another ploy by Nvidia to push old
parts on unsuspecting consumers? Well, looks like the only
thing that we can expect to change is power consumption, due to a
redesigned PCB. Also, 1GB editions now officially exist as well. Nvidia
is launching the GeForce GTS 250 512MB at USD129 and the GeForce GTS
250 1GB at USD149.
- Western Digital's WD TV HD Media Player Tested - What makes the WD TV so appealing is its
price tag. $129 is attractive enough already, but I've
regularly found the device on sale for as little as $99, putting it
dangerously close to impulse-buy territory if you've already got a
spare USB storage device. The software needs a bit of fine-tuning, yet
the WD TV strikes me as an excellent choice for people like my
grandparents who don't need a next-generation game console or a home
theater PC just to enjoy a digital video every once in a while. If
you're on the fence about an HTPC, or you're just plain frustrated with
the inconsistent format support from game consoles, the WD TV might be
right up your alley.
- Windows 7: RDP changes improve remote desktop
performance - Here are the features introduced
in Windows 7 Remote Desktop Client.
- Microsoft Surface 2 coming soon (video) - Joe
Olsen a developer whose company writes applications for the Surface
said that the next version of Surface was already in the development
stage. Though Microsoft won't comment on a release date, the
Surface 2 codenamed 'Second Light' will be build on the
original model and have a second projector inside the table computer
that can project images onto a layer above the surface of the screen.
In effect, the device will be able to overlay secondary images above
those on the screen - such as satellite imagery. The machine will also
have infrared sensors that can interpret gestures and movements without
having to touch the screen.
- Adobe Patches Zero-Day
Vulnerability -
If you're still using Adobe Reader, you'll be happy to know a patch was released this week
that fixes the problem in version 9. Users of versions 7 & 8
are still on schedule to be patched on 3/18. For those that haven't
been following the details of the exploit, the vulnerability is a
result of an array indexing error in the processing of JBIG2 streams.
Hackers have found a way to corrupt arbitrary memory using the PDF
format and take control of compromised systems. The lesson learned here
if we didn't know it already, don't take candy, or PDF's from
strangers.
- Facebook Announces Facebook Connect for iPhone - Facebook

- Scammers customize news to deliver you malware - Security
experts warned on Monday of a new insidious e-mail scam that
features false information about a bomb explosion in the recipient's
hometown and leads to a malicious Web site.
- Mitnick Kicked Off Facebook? - In an
ironic twist, Kevin Mitnick, a social engineering master
who went to jail for impersonating others to get information to access
computer networks without authorization, couldn't access his own
Facebook account for weeks because administrators at the social
networking site didn't believe he was who he said he was.
- BlackBerry Niagara 9630 Preview (video) - Running
on OS 4.7.1.10, the model shown in the video below appears to be an
early beta, as the previewer says that he's been having some trouble
with stability. The phone keeps rebooting itself for no real reason in
particular, but we are offered a terrific glimpse
into the physical features of the phone.
- Cajun Crawler Exhibition 08 (video) - The
following video is a documentary of sorts. The video shows
the Cajun Crawler. It was a project that was completed for the Fall 08
semester at the University of Louisiana. The scooter was inspired by
Theo Jansen's leg mechanism. Throughout our research, we found no
application where Jansen's leg mechanism was used as a weight-bearing
application or vehicle. The legs are made of standard 5052 Aluminum.
The joints all contain deep-groove ball bearings. 'm telling you right
now, this thing would totally kick your Segway's wimpy ass :P

hots department.
- Malin Akerman Cover Maxim Magazine for April 2009
- Malin Akerman is the cover girl
for the April 2009 issue of 'Maxim' magazine. She played Silk Spectre
II in the 2009 film adaptation of Watchmen. She's ridiculously
good-looking and she is always getting naked in her movies. What more
could you ask for? :P
