Dell drops Windows RT, only Microsoft remains selling the OS -
In the fall of 2012, five companies offered tablets or PCs that ran on Microsoft's new ARM-based Windows RT. Now just one company is actively selling such a product and it happens to be Microsoft. This week, the last remaining third party Windows RT hardware provider, Dell, stopped selling its lone product that used the OS, the XPS 10.
Dell's online store now lists the XPS 10 as being "unavailable"
and offers the Windows 8-based Latitude 10 tablet as a possible alternative. Earlier this year, Neil Hand, the head of Dell's tablet and high-end PC business, stated the company still plans to introduce new Windows RT devices, but so far, it has yet to make any such product announcements.

MS posts videos showing off Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 features -
Microsoft released a video on Monday that had a more
surreal introduction of the upcoming Surface 2 tablet
. However, people who were looking for some actual information about both the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 could also check out two more videos that offered a quick overview of the new tablets. Microsoft posts videos showing off Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 features
Microsoft adds 200GB SkyDrive option for $100 a year -
In a post on the official
SkyDrive blog
, Microsoft announced the
new 200GB storage limit
can be bought for $100 a year. The previous storage limit was 100GB, which costs $50. "Just to put that in context: 200 GB is enough space to take a photo, every hour, from the moment someone is born, to the day they graduate from college," the blog post states.
Microsoft Keeping Close Eye on SteamOS, Steam Machines -
The Steam Machines initiative, as well as AMD's Mantle API, shows that the gaming industry outside the Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo trio wants change.
The good news is that Microsoft and Sony seem to be catching on
, shifting over to a "services" focus. You also have to look at what's going on in the Android front. Sure, Android games won't match what's made available on the new consoles, but most of these titles -- if they're purchased through Google Play or Amazon's Appstore -- can be played outside the living room experience on phones, tablets and laptops. Even Nvidia's Shield handheld attempts to merge the Android and PC world, and it can connect to a big-screen TV just like any console. No longer are gamers merely content on playing titles on one stationary screen, and the console trio no longer has dibs on the big screen living room TV.
Amazon Kindle Fire HDX tablet comes with more speed, memory -
The Kindle Fire HDX
is finally here and well and has its share of satisfying goodies for us. But, with great features come a heavy price tag. That's something we can live with, and why not. Starting up, the Kindle Fire HDX, arrives in 7- and 8.9-inch models. At first look, the new tablets look trapezoidal from particular dimensions and we believe it will leave little room for complaints regarding ergonomics. The molded magnesium body makes them feel quite solid and has the 8.9-inch variant weigh 13.2-ounces. Fair, some would claim. The ergonomic angle promises that these do not strain your fingers. Inside, it is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU and runs with Jelly Bean 4.2.2. making the Fire OS a zip through when it comes to speed. And then there's 2GB of RAM to boost it up further. The tablets are adorned with some rather convenient buttons around the display that supports resolutions of up to 1920×1200 pixels (7-inch) and 2560×1600 pixels (8.9-inch), respectively. The latter touching an impressive 339 pixels per inch, surpassing the Apple and Nexus displays. Other major boosts some may appreciate in the new HDX versions include a 11-hour battery life, a Mayday button that makes a human head appear asking you how he or she can help you (actual technician support with remote screen sharing), better gaming thanks to Fire OS3, pinning of apps and more, threaded emailing, enterprise security features and a lot more.
Samsung Smartphone With Curved Display Coming In October -
Today's smartphones are certainly impressive, but what we are so excited about at the moment will feel like nothing when compared to what's going to be in our hands sometime in the future. Apart from being more powerful, mobile phones and tablets of the future should be a whole lot different in design, equipped with curved displays screens, which are bendable and foldable.
Samsung's upcoming smartphone could just be the beginning
. According to D.J. Lee, Samsung's mobile business head of strategic marketing, who was talking at the launch event of the Note 3 in Seoul, "We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October". No other details were provided about the upcoming smartphone. We don't have an exact release date, and no hints about which OS the phone will run. No clues about the pricing as well.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Coming Soon -
If you are looking to pick up the latest Samsung 10-incher, you'll be happy to know that Sammy has announced that the
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
will go up for pre-order from select retailers starting tomorrow, with plans to ship by October 10th. What kind of meat does the refreshed Note 10.1 bring to the table? The new Samsung tablet is powered by a 1.9GHz Exynos 5 CPU and 3GB RAM – or a Snapdragon 800 CPU for the LTE model. Other specs include 64GB of storage, microSD, 8MP rear cam, 2MP front cam, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, S-Pen, an 8,220 mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Touchwiz. Okay, so we know we can pre-order it and get it by the 10th of October, but how much will it cost? The 16GB model will set you back $549.99, and the 32GB model will cost $599.99. No pricing or release details on the LTE variant just yet.
Samsung to introduce ultra-premium Galaxy F series by early next -
According to a Korean news website
ETNews
, Samsung is developing a new ultra-premium flagship line-up named Galaxy F that'll accompany its current top of the line Galaxy S and Note series. Samsung has been constantly under pressure to change the plasticky looks of both the current flagships and until now we had the idea that the next generation Galaxy S5 would be metal bodied. This development is absolutely new and we believe Samsung's choice of branching out with a new line-up is a smart move. Though it's too early to predict what Samsung might experiment with the Galaxy F series but sources suggest it'll feature a full metal body and a premium design accompanied with some of the best features. It might come with an Octa-core Exynos processor and a 16MP rear camera with optical image stabilization. Expect an early next year release for the first device in the line-up and it'll be interesting to see how Samsung prices it. Going by the rumored features and the current trend, it can cost somewhere near $700-$800 without contract.

T-Mobile to Drop BlackBerry Smartphones from Stores -
T-Mobile said
that it plans to cease offering BlackBerry phones at its retail stores. It will continue to offer them online and ship them directly to customers. The company said that, "Keeping stock in the retail distribution system was inefficient," according to David Carey, T-Mobile's executive vice president for corporate services. Carey noted that there is little demand for BlackBerries and most purchases are made by businesses. Earlier this week, BlackBerry announced that it had signed a letter of intent with Fairfax Financial that could lead to a sale of the company to a consortium of private bankers. BlackBerry said it will take a $1 billion charge in order to write-down inventory of unsold Z10 smartphones and slash 4,700 jobs.
BlackBerry to Cut 4,500 Jobs, Posts $1B Loss -
BlackBerry today announced massive job cuts
amidst a large loss for its second fiscal quarter. The company expects to write down $1 billion in unsold Z10 smartphone inventory and post a loss of between $950 and $995 million. The company said it sold 3.7 million devices during its second fiscal quarter, but the bulk of them were its older BlackBerry 7 devices, and not its new BlackBerry 10 smartphones. As a result, it will layoff 40% of its global work force, or about 4,500 employees. After the cuts, BlackBerry will be left with 7,000 employees, about half what it was two years ago. Further, BlackBerry said it plans to make changes to its business. The company said it will "refocus on the enterprise and prosumer market." It will consolidate its hardware portfolio from six devices to four, including two high-end devices and two entry-level devices. BlackBerry announced earlier this month that it is exploring its strategic options, including a sale of the company, whether in parts or as a whole.
Inside The Fall Of BlackBerry -
Once the giant of the smartphone business,
RIM, which was renamed BlackBerry Ltd. in the summer, is now on its knees
. The company reported a $965-million fiscal second-quarter loss Friday, primarily because of a massive writedown of Z10 phones that sit, unsold and unwanted, about eight months after they first hit the market.

As the King of Random shows off here,
there are a couple of different ways to go about setting a blaze with tap water and household goods
, but it's not quite five. Really, the trick is just to find a way to focus light, and there's a bunch of slightly different ways to go about it. Alternatively you could find some sodium for real fun, but it's probably easiest to just find a book of matches.

Finally a decent-looking-and-larger-than-24-inch-16:10 monitor.
Let's hope that the reviews will be as good as it sounds.
7ms is a bit high for GTG, let's hope tests prove that it's only 5.
Price will be crucial as 4k monitors are coming. This monitor is about 3 years too late.

No surprises here, it was a bad idea from day 1. I expect at least one other failure to be announced soon.

Recycle Your Old microSD Cards Into an SSD Drive
Neat, but 80 dollars is too much for a simple adapter; the tear/wear is going to eat those cards quickly as it seems to be a simple RAID controller without much consideration for the characteristics of a flash memory.

I would never store anything on their servers, not even for free, no matter how large. I don't even understand why anyone should be paying for being part of the world's biggest spy network; they should pay us.

T-Mobile to Drop BlackBerry Smartphones from Stores
The funny thing is that these phones are nowhere to be seen in stores - you have to ask for them. I wonder if Apple paid T-Mobile to get the BlackBerry phones out of sight.

Inside The Fall Of BlackBerry
The biggest mistake of BlackBerry was the same as Nokia's: to make phones that last for a lifetime. Look at those other vendors who make throw-away phones: they are still in business and rich; you have to buy a new one every one or two years.
