  • Intel cuts CPU prices - Intel has trimmed prices on a range of mainstream and value-oriented Core 2 and Pentium processors. While pricing on higher-end quad-core Core i7 and Core 2 Quad CPUs carry over unchanged, Intel's Q9400 and Q9300 saw a 14% cut, down from $213 to $183, while their entry-level quad-core CPUs with 4MB of L2 cache (the Q8400 and Q8300) had their prices reduced 11% from $183 to $163. Low power variants of the Q9400 and Q8400 also saw cuts. On the dual-core Core 2 front, Intel lowered the E7500's price from $133 to $113, a reduction of 15%. Pentium CPUs also saw price cuts, with Intel trimming the price of the E6300 from $84 to $81, while the E5400 and E5300 saw cuts of 12% and 14% respectively, and are now priced at $74 and $64.

  • Sky News exposes dodgy laptop repair shops [UK] - Sky News in the UK have exposed several laptop repair shops including some big names like Micro Anvika and PC World. During the investigation, researchers unplugged a RAM stick from a laptop to see if the shops would simply diagnose the fault or charge extra for work and components. Only one shop was genuinely honest.

  • Taser makes new three-way X3 electro-shock, tests it on own - A single Taser passes a low electric shock through the body of the victims. The ones which were demonstrated here didn't shoot just one by three shots in quick succession. These caused an administration of z400 to 1200 volt shocks in the bodies of victims, thus immobilizing them temporarily.
  • Hand vs. Liquid Nitrogen and the Leidenfrost Effect (video) - The Leidenfrost effect is the formation of a gas barrier between a hot surface and a boiling liquid if the temperature difference is great enough. This gas barrier greatly slows the heat transfer between the two and allows the liquid to last longer and consequently the hot surface to remain hot longer. This effect can be seen in a frying pan as it's being heated. At first the water quickly boils as it's dropped in but at a hot enough temperature the Leidenfrost effect takes over and makes the water skate around the surface lasting a very long time.
  • Top Gear pits Jaguar XFR against BMW M5 (video) - Clarkson spent all of his time behind the wheel of a right hand drive XFR, and he seemed surprised and delighted at the Leaping Cat's power and handling. Clarkson calls the cushy ride of the XFR 'so soft and it's so absorbent, it's like sitting on a fat dog.' But this plump puppy has 503 hp, and '80 more torques' than the BMW, while both vehicles' weight is about the same!
