The holiday season upon us, it will consume our time as much as the games we will be playing. Since I am done with my xmas shopping (except a few DVDs), I plan on playing more Need For Speed Carbon and Neverwinter Nights 2. Which games will you be playing this weekend or will you be stuck shopping? :-D
Futuristic Space City
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+/5000+ For Socket AM2 -
Considering the rather minor difference in performance (and presumably greater difference in price), we can say that
Athlon 64 X2 4800+
looks somewhat more attractive than its senior sibling.
ASUS GeForce EN7950GT reviewed -
If you have the kind of money that can buy a GeForce 7950GT
and you insist on the nVidia brand, we would recommend that you look around and see if you can snag a second hand 7900GTX on the cheap. Or buy a 7900GS instead and overclock the buggery out of it while in turn saving some money. Or just simply have some patience and hold on for another pay check or two and jump on the GeForce 8800 bandwagon. In related news, TechSpot posted a review on
the ASUS Extreme AX1950Pro
.
GeForce 7900 GT Round-Up -
The goal of this evaluation
is to see how these lower priced GeForce 7900 GT GPU based video cards compare to a GeForce 7950 GT as well as to see which one is a better value for your money.

AutoPatcher XP
, this means 330 megabytes.

30 Essential Open Source Software Packages for Windows -
This is from the perspective of a person setting up a machine from scratch
and shows the possibilities of OSS.
Microsoft reaches limit on Vista, Office giveaway -
Actually, the PowerTogether.com site was a legitimate Microsoft-run site. Aimed at software developers and architects, the site offered free copies of both titles to those who watched at least three Web-based seminars on each of the new products. Unfortunately, for those looking to score their free copy,
Microsoft said that it has already received sign-ups from the 30,000 people it had hoped to register
for the program. The site now says "sold out" when people come to register for the giveaway.
Vista vulnerable to malware from 2004 -
Microsoft's Vista may be vulnerable to at least three pieces of widespread malware

ATM PINs vulnerable to cracking, Israeli researchers say -
A group of researchers at Algorithmic Research (ARX), an Israeli security firm,
published a paper two weeks ago describing a very serious flaw inherent in most ATMs
. Apparently, between the time that you input your PIN and the time that the machine spits out your cash, a dataset containing your PIN and account number is encrypted and decrypted a few times while being routed along the banking network -- and somewhere along that point, it's conceivable that those numbers could be intercepted. MSNBC reports that while no attacks using this method have been detected, the US Secret Service is already on the case, and that while Visa and the American Bankers Association are acknowledging the problem, both are dismissing the hacking scenario as being unlikely.
Sony ships their first Blu-Ray player -
You can expect to see this player in all major consumer electronic shops
just in time for the holidays for a retail price somewhere around the $1000 mark. This price tag will surely make many consumers think about it twice, especially because of the limited movie library which is no better than HD DVD's, while the player itself does come at an added cost.

I'm plugging away at my second run through the NWN2 campaign this weekend. My first character was sort of gimped, it's considerably more fun this time. Best RPG I've played in years.
