  • Are AMD and ATI About to Become Extinct? - Motherboards.org asks if AMD is about to become extinct. They had better hope not.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 RC1 Tested - IE8 does a better job at protecting your privacy and confidential information when you're online - at least compared to IE7 - and it helps to protect and stop malicious software from reaching your PC by detecting imposter (phishing) Web sites. IE8 also supports Data Execution Prevention, a technology that aims to reduce the exploitability of buffer overflows, which are commonly exploited for injecting malicious code. If programmers write their code with DEP in mind, many potential vulnerabilities could be eliminated.
  • Open-source browsers' speeds blow past IE, Opera - The test compared Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1, Opera 10.00 Alpha, Firefox 3.1b1, Chrome 2.0.158.0, and the WebKit r40220 developer project included in Chrome and Apple's Safari.
  • Mozilla donates $100.000 to free web video - The organization behind Firefox has given a $100,000 grant to the Wikimedia Foundation so it can improve the Ogg Theora video codec
  • The oldest trick in the book, literally, defeats UAC in Windows 7 - Though the fellows sounding the warning today are the best in the business, it didn't take a lot of know-how to develop a proof-of-concept that the new User Access Control panel can be disabled by VBScript. Indeed, the SendKeys method is capable of sending up and down keypresses to this panel, and can even send the keypresses necessary to make the panel appear. Rivera warns that real malware could conceivably be used to not only force UAC to turn off, but then to reboot Windows and run a malicious package with full privileges. (His PoC, however, does not do that.)
  • Google Makes Gmail Available Offline - All you Gmail users will be happy to know that Google has made Gmail available offline. Here's how the new feature will work: Once you turn on this feature, Gmail uses Gears to download a local cache of your mail. As long as you're connected to the network, that cache is synchronized with Gmail's servers. When you lose your connection, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode, and uses the data stored on your computer's hard drive instead of the information sent across the network.
  • Gates predicts four-year downturn - Microsoft founder Bill Gates says it could be four years before the world's troubled economies return to economic growth.
Unboxing the BlackBerry Storm 9530 from Telus Mobility (video) - The BlackBerry Storm 9530 really offers a unique interface. With most other touchscreen smartphones, a tap is equivalent to a click, even if you don't really want to click through to an app or a function. The Storm fixes this concern by differentiating between a touch and a click. And what's included in the box? Aside from the phone itself, you get the standard documentation, installation CD, carrying pouch, wall charger with adapters, headset, USB cable, and a cleaning cloth
  • Metallica's James Hetfield: 'I Love the Internet' - Woot?! :)
  • Tomb Raider Relaunch Coming - Tomb Raider looks to be getting another feature film treatment on its way, but not with the actress rumoured over the last few days
  • Van Damme Doing Bloodsport 2 - The mighty Jean-Claude Van Damme seems to be enjoying something of a resurgence with the success of JCVD… and with the success of films like Rocky and Rambo for Stallone it makes sense that Van Damme would want to go back to that which made him a star in the first place. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Jean-Claude Van Damme has announced that he is making a TRUE Bloodsport 2.
  • Stallone says He isn't Done with Rambo - Sylvester Stallone, who is preparing to shoot action-adventure The Expendables, told Extra that he’s planning to play John Rambo again.
  • New 9 Trailer Online - The look and feel of it is like a darker grittier version of the Playstation 3 game Little Big Planet, and I love the style.
  • Taken Trailer Online - Liam Neeson is returning with a can of vengeful kickassery in what looks to be a great action film called Taken in theaters this week.
  • Robert Rodriguez Producing a Predator Reboot?! - Rumor: Robert Rodriguez and his Troublemaker Studios are producing a new Predator reboot for Fox.
  • Optical Illusion Girlfriend (video) - Elephant Larry presents a story you have to see twice to believe :-)
  • Lamborghini Gallardo: Lots of Fun in the Snow (video) - The Fifth Gear crew heads to the snowy Italian Alps with the 5.2-liter V10-powered 552 HP Lambo, and proceeds to the nearest ice track.
  • Alcohol Olympics (video) - Drinking has always been a mainstay of human civilization. In moments of joy, sadness, boredom, and even holiness, we drink. But what? And how much? And who drinks the most?
  • Megan Fox Before She Became A Major Fox - Here are some old Megan Fox photos when she was just a little Miley - except less famous and much prettier. I don't know exactly how old she was in these modelling shots, but she definitely hasn't changed much except for the regrettable tattoos
  • Lindsay Lohan in the Fornarina Ad Campaign - Lindsay Lohan still gets gigs after all she's done. Now Lindsay is the ad girl for Fornarina, some girl clothing company. They did do a pretty decent photoshoot with Lindsay. Some of their clothes are actually pretty sexy, and Lindsay actually sells them pretty sexily, unlike her normal outfits.
