GeForce GTX 980 starts listing in pricewatch engines -
I just performed a search on
GeForce GTX 980 at geizhals.at
, an EU based price-watch engine. It started listing a GeForce GTX 980 entry. Few details are listed however there are some very interesting specs listed. it confirmes that the card has 4GB graphics memory on a 256-bit bus. But here's more interesting info, the entry also lists the number of Shader processors at 2560 with 160 TMUs (texture memory units) and 64 ROPs.
Dell kicks your puny 4K monitor to the curb, debuts 27-inch 5K panel -
A recent Dell press event saw the computer manufacturer debut a number of new laptop and desktop models, but tucked into its product list came one particular stunner:
a 27-inch monitor sporting a 5120*2880 resolution
. The Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K Monitor, set to launch by the end of Q4 2014 for $2,499, will scream past the consumer-grade competition with a whopping 14.7 million pixels in all. That's over 70 percent bigger than the standard 4K spec of 3840*2160.
MSI Intros New Gaming Laptop And Dock For Discrete GPU -
MSI introduced the GS30 Shadow
, the company's newest gaming notebook that packs the latest fourth generation Core i7 processor and a 13.3-inch screen. MSI also introduced a "GamingDock" built for the GS30 Shadow that houses a discrete graphics card. This dock will be released in January 2015, and the laptop is expected to launch in the USA sometime before that. The laptop include the previously mentioned 13.3-inch anti-glare screen, which has a 2560 x 1440 resolution. There's the Core i7 processor with Iris Pro graphics (MSI didn't specify the model number), up to 16 GB of DDR3L memory (up to 1600 MHz), two M.2 SSDs with Super Raid and an HD webcam capable of 30 frames per second at 720p
Lenovo Tab S8: Super-Thin Super-Light And Affordable -
While the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is what's creating more talks at IFA 2014, Lenovo also seems to have come out with a device worth a story or two.
Called the Tab S8, the new Android tablet could be the one for you
if you are looking for an affordable, thin, and light slate coming with decent specs. The 8-inch Lenovo Tab S8 measures 0.31 inch thick, so it's almost as slim as the Retina display iPad mini and Galaxy Tab S 8.4. It weighs in at 0.65 pound, so lighter than the iPad but slightly heavier than the Tab S. The slate, which runs Android 4.4 KitKat, is the first Lenovo Android tablet to come equipped with a quad-core Intel Atom processor. Other specs include a 1,920 x 1,200 display, 2GB RAM, and a seven-hour battery life. But the best thing is that the device is coming with a price tag of $199. If you haven't realized it, that price is around half that of what Apple and Samsung are offering their devices for. So, are you interested in the new Lenovo Tab S8?
NZXT Announces The S340 -
Forged from strong, cold-rolled steel,
the S340 exudes an air of confidence that only the most durable of cases
is capable of exhibiting. Axing the optical bays and relocating the HDDs to a lower position opens the case up like never before, making this one of the easiest cases to build in ever. A grommet-less cable management solution, alongside over twenty zip-tie locations and plenty of space behind the motherboard tray gives you unprecedented cable management options for a mid tower case. Sprint Selling the HTC One (E8) -
Sprint today added the HTC One (E8)
to its roster of Android smartphones. The E8, which was announced earlier this year, is a plastic version of the M8. It carries over many of the same features, such as the 5-inch full HD screen, BoomSound speakers, 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, and 2,600mAh battery with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and HTC Sense 6.0. The device trades the M8's 4-ultrapixel camera for a standard 13-megapixel sensor. The Sprint E8 includes Sprint Spark, Wi-Fi calling, and HD Voice. It is being sold in gray or white online and via telesales. With Sprint Easy Pay, the HTC One E8 can be purchased for $0 down followed by 24 monthly payments of $20.84. Alternately, it costs $99 with a new two-year contract or $499 at full retail
Microsoft is finally dropping its 2GB file restriction for OneDrive -
During the last few days,
users have started to notice that Microsoft has removed its artificial limitation
preventing 2GB files from being uploaded to the service. Fortunately, this was not a fluke, as it looks like Microsoft is removing this limitation. Microsoft confirmed that the block was starting to be removed on some accounts and is rolling out to additional accounts at this time.
Microsoft said to be interested in popular Android mod, Cyanogen -
If you are not familiar with the Android community, one of the most popular modifications to install on your device is a build of the OS by Cyanogen. The custom software is far from a novelty as the team behind the OS has raised millions of dollars and it now ships natively on the OnePlus One smartphone. Seeing that the Android modification is getting popular, and that Android itself owns the largest slice of the market share pie, Cyanogen is attracting attention from big name companies, such as Microsoft. According to The Information, they are saying that
the team has recently met with Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella
. What if they were in talks with Cyanogen to distribute ROMs of Windows Phone that would run on non-Windows Phone models, like say a Nexus or Galaxy S 5? That would be the best way to go about it. Microsoft has already done the hard work-- their kernel runs just fine on most all of the CPUs used by all these Android phones. All they would need to develop are additional drivers to fill any gaps with device support, gyroscopes, wifi, etc. They would then have not only the services, but also the app market as well. Just a thought.....
Apple manipulates journalists using anonymous social media accounts -
A new report from the typically Apple-friendly news site 9to5Mac has detailed the strides Apple goes through in order to cultivate positive media coverage -- including maintaining falsely inflated relationships with journalists, and even "keeping tabs" on writers and media members using anonymous social media accounts.
The nine-part feature
covers multiple aspects of Apple's highly-praised PR game, but several sections are more interesting than others -- including the part which
details how
Apple games the media and uses journalists to its advantage.

Laniakea: Our home supercluster -
Superclusters - regions of space that are densely packed with galaxies
– are the biggest structures in the Universe. But scientists have struggled to define exactly where one supercluster ends and another begins. Now, a team based in Hawaii has come up with a new technique that maps the Universe according to the flow of galaxies across space. Redrawing the boundaries of the cosmic map, they redefine our home supercluster and name it Laniakea, which means 'immeasurable heaven' in Hawaiian.

The thing about a professional cycling race is that it never stops moving. And as a mechanic you're basically chasing a swarm of humans travelling at a constant 30 mph.

Useless 16:9 aspect ratio. Make it 16:10 and I'll consider.
It's a monitor, not a TV.

Well, that's Apple. A huge hype around mediocre sweat-shop-built products.

Aspect ratio isn't that important, pixel count is.
218 PPI is finally beginning to approach a usable density on a desktop monitor. It's been a long hard slog waiting for it, and it's still not quite there, it should get past 300, and then you still need a resolution independent OS that scales text to a good size and high sharpness, but finally the manufacturers are moving us beyond that idiotic HD resolution that we've stagnated on for so long.

I guess that depends whom do you ask.

To me, 16:10 ratio is a must.
just hide the taskbar and you ~get what you would have with 16:10 WITH taskbar. ;)
also, at that pixel count, screen real-estate is HUGE, you won't miss anything really. You might miss-click things because they are way too small for 5K on 27" :D
