TechNews - Battery that 'charges in seconds' - tech

  • AMD Phenom II DDR2 vs. DDR3 Performance - AMD K10 is a good leap in performance, but it certainly isn't what is required to take full advantage of DDR3 memory. Looking at the design of K10 vs. Core i7, both processors have an on-chip memory controller, eliminating any FSB needed for memory to processor communication. Both have a very fast link between their CPU and their external Northbridge, allowing other components fast access to the system memory. So in all reality, both setups have the necessary basis to get things going. It is AMD's K10 that isn't quite able to take full advantage of this memory at these early stages; what the future holds is anyone's guess.

  • Fusion-io Reveals World's Fastest SSD - Fusion-io has just revealed the world's fastest SSD - touting a mind-boggling 1.5GB sustained read and 1.4GB sustained write speeds. The blazing fast drive will come in four sizes, 160GB, 320GB, 640GB and 1.28TB. Three of these versions will be available in April, while you'll have to wait until the second half of this year to get the 1.28TB flavor.
  • Battery that 'charges in seconds' - A new manufacturing method for lithium-ion batteries could lead to smaller, lighter batteries that can be charged in just seconds. Batteries that discharge just as quickly would be useful for electric and hybrid cars, where a quick jolt of charge is needed for acceleration. The approach only requires simple changes to the production process of a well-known material.
  • Which Internet Browser is Fastest for Windows? - Microsoft Windows based browser it looks like Safari 4.0 Beta is the fastest thing out there that you can download today. In terms of basic specs, you get a 2.2-inch display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and some basic web surfing capabilities. In regards to the keyboard, the buttons are "a bit close," but they get better as you get used to them.
  • Guided Tour of New Apple iPod Shuffle - The new Apple iPod Shuffle is only about the size of a pack of gum because the controls have been relocated to the headphone cord. Cramer was especially upset about being included in a segment TDS produced on the horrible and almost criminal reporting CNBC has been airing as THE go-to business network after CNBC's Rick Santelli attacked average working-class people who got caught up in the sub-prime mortgage crisis. Santelli dubbed them as "losers." Well, the only loser tonight was Cramer and CNBC. Jim basically sat there, starry-eyed like a lost puppy, and was virtually silent throughout the three-segment show featuring him. He basically waved the white flag and said, "You got me."
