when it comes to 1 GB versus 512 MB on a video card? As long as the video card is a fast card, like the HD4870, it clearly is very beneficial to the performance of some games and less benificial in others.

Internet Explorer is a piece of trash, I use 8 myself. I use it only when forced too. Primarily I use Firefox. I just download a Security add-on,
No-Script
and cruise the net in bliss.
If you use Internet Explorer 7 (gasp) you can get something called
IE7 Pro
. It makes the experience a little safer, more customizable and a wee bit faster. It's free too.
