TechNews - AMD vs Intel in a $100-150 CPU Battle - tech
(hx) 06:22 PM CET - Feb,14 2010 - Post a comment / read (3)
  • AMD vs Intel in a $100-150 CPU Battle - Is there a clear winner? The article says it's a toss-up between the Core i3 540 and Phenom II X4 925. If you do a lot of 3D rendering, go for the Phenom. If you care much about power consumption, get the Core i3. If you are really managing a tight budget, you won't miss out on much by going with an Athlon II X4.

  • Office 2010 on Ju15; Windows 8: It Won't Be Called Windows 8 - Microsoft employee briefly blogged about the next Windows release - Windows 8 - recently, although the software giant quickly pulled the post. There were some interesting tidbits. First, Microsoft isn't referring to the next Windows version as Windows 8; instead, the OS is currently going by a very common Microsoft moniker, Windows Next. ("Next" or sometimes "v.Next" is often used to simply ID a product as the next version.) This is an important distinction because, as I've noted before, Microsoft isn't doing major and minor Windows versions anymore. So Windows 8 (or whatever it will be called) will simply be the next version of Windows. The post also made a bizarre claim. "The next version will be something completely different from what folks usually expect of Windows," it reads.
  • Some Windows XP Users Get BSOD After Patch Tuesday - Microsoft pulled the MS10-015 update out of circulation last week due to user complaints that the patch caused their XP build to BSOD. • Windows Phone 7 announcements next week -The Wall Street Journal is running a story claiming that Microsoft will announce the next generation of Windows Mobile next week, named Windows Phone 7. Microsoft please don't screw this up! :-)
  • Iran permanently suspends Gmail service - Iran's telecommunication agency has decided to permanently suspend Gmail service throughout the country. In its place, Iran will push a national email service for Iranian citizens. It's still unclear as to whether Gmail has already been shut off in Iran, or if this is just something that will happen in the near future.
