TechNews - AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE & X4 810 - tech
(hx) 01:45 AM CET - Feb,11 2009 - Post a comment
  • AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE & X4 810 Review Round-Up - The X4 810 is a nice part which will make quite a few folks happy. It does not run really hot, it does not pull all that much power, and it certainly performs well considering the price it is at. The real star of this show is the X3 720 BE. Overclocking this is a breeze, and its performance even at stock speeds is nothing to sneeze at. Once up at 3.5 GHz and beyond, the real fun starts.
  • Intel Reveals Westmere 32nm Roadmap -  Intel has unveiled most of what we wanted to know about their 32nm "Westmere" processors, and it looks like we have a fair amount to look forward to. In addition to the fact that we'll be seeing GPU/CPU processors later this year, the company also threw in a few other surprises, such as the inclusion of new security-based instructions.
  • Intel delays 'Tukwila' server chip - again - Tukwila is a quad-core update to the Itanium processor, which has had a less-than-promising run since the original version was announced back in 2001. The chip's architecture--based on explicit instruction-level parallelism--is a radical departure from the x86 design used in PCs today. It was believed at one time that Itanium would replace x86 chips in many Intel-based computers.
  • Intel to Invest $7 Billion in U.S. Manufacturing Facilities Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini today announced the company would spend $7 billion over the next two years to build advanced manufacturing facilities in the United States.
  • Nvidia working to cut GeForce GTX 260 production costs - The latest design includes the new 55nm GT200b GPU, 10 PCB layers, and no Volterra chip
  • Catalyst 9.2 without AF-Bug Soon - It looks like the next Catalyst driver will resolve the AF bug. After the Catalyst 8.12 hotfix driver you cannot activate AF in Catalyst drivers under DX10 games. Some games like Crysis Warhead have not got any option in the game to configure AF. So you must play without AF in these games.
  • GeForce 182.05 beta driver released -  Recommended for the best experience in F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
  • Official Windows XP Support To Be Scaled Back - On April 14, Microsoft plans to shift Windows XP from 'mainstream support' to 'extended support.' This will change the availability of free fixes and updates for many people.
  • Last official day to download Windows 7 beta - Today is the final day that Microsoft plans to offer the download from their servers. They will be shut off at 11:59 pm PT today
  • Microsoft reveals 'My Phone' backup, sync service - Microsoft said it would give each user 200MB of storage space, but warned that only phones powered by Windows Mobile 6 or later would be compatible with the service
  • ComputerTan hoax fools tens of thousands of users - ComputerTan is a fantastic new product that absolutely 100% guarantees to transform your computer monitor into a UV sunlamp, and provide that perfect crispy burnt glow at the office. Or not! It might sound absurd, but some 30,000 individuals have signed up the the service that offers to let them pick the shade they want to be, expecting their monitor to do its magic. OMG! :-)
  • No One Said iPhone Was a Nice Guy (video) -  Yes, the iPhone may not be the nicest guy there, but it seems that he really gets what's coming to him.
  • Disney and DreamWorks Distribution Partnership is Official - The Walt Disney Studios has agreed to enter into an exclusive long-term distribution arrangement with filmmaker Steven Spielberg and partner Stacey Snider, CEO of DreamWorks, to distribute all upcoming live-action motion pictures produced by DreamWorks under their partnership with Reliance Big Entertainment. Under the terms of this arrangement, Disney will handle distribution and marketing for approximately six DreamWorks films each year. The first DreamWorks film to be released under the Touchstone Pictures banner is scheduled for in 2010.
  • Fred Durst's The Education of Charlie Banks Trailer - Who would have ever guessed that Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst was going to become a great director? Although he directed The Longshots last year, his real debut was on a film called The Education of Charlie Banks, that is just hitting theaters now even though it premiered at Tribeca in 2007. The trailer for the film premiered over the weekend and is actually worth checking out
  • First Official Footage from Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds! - Apparently the rumors are true - Entertainment Tonight is showing the first full trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds tomorrow night. In advance of that debut, they've aired a very short teaser for the trailer, which features about 25 seconds of our first look at Inglourious Basterds.
  • Will Arnold be back in Terminator Salvation? - It's likely ILM is working on digitizing him to look like the 1984 Schwarzenegger we all know. Sound about right to you?
  • Christian Bale takes David to the Dentist Mash-Up Video - Every remake of this kid makes me laugh :-)
  • Olga Kurylenko Photos - Does it get any hotter than that? :P
  • Adriana Lima Is Sexy In Elle - Adriana Lima never disappoints!
