  • AMD's FX-8150 'Bulldozer' processor - The FX-8150 can't quite match the overall performance of the Core i5-2500K, and it costs $29 more, as well. That puts the FX-8150 in a difficult position purely from a value standpoint - without even considering that the Core i5-2500K fits into a smaller 95W power envelope. That leaves us pondering what exactly AMD was thinking when it priced the FX-8150 above the 2500K. Perhaps it's hoping to get some marketing traction from the FX's inherently bigger numbers - Eight cores! Higher clocks! Larger caches! - but those things don't count for much when it comes to delivered, real-world performance.
  • 2560x1440 display coming to ultrabooks - VR-Zone reports that the 13.3inch panels with 2560x1440 pixels will start appearing in ulrabooks early next year!
  • Is your Firefox freezing at regular intervals? - If you think you are suffering this bug, stay sure it will be solved in Firefox 8. In the meanwhile, here is a simple workaround to fix the issue.

Unfortunately, this device does not have 4G support. The entire spec list can be found here. The HTC Rhyme rings up the cash register at $439.99 outright or $199 on a two year contract.
  • Apple Releases OS X 10.7.2 with iCloud Support and Safari 5.1.1 - Apple released an update to OSX Lion, enabling Mac owners to move data to cloud storage, fixes for 10 known bugs and updates the Safari Browser. It’s a hefty update package weighing in at around 450 MB’s.
  • SSI's Shred of the Month: The Monster! - SSI just built one of the most powerful shredders on earth. We affectionately call him "The Monster". He eats whole hide-a-beds and super tires for breakfast, without even taking a breath.
  • The Navy's New Robo-Copter On Video - The Navy's K-MAX robo-helicopters are bad ass!
  • Panasonic Cockpit digital dash prototype hands-on (video) - The electronics maker brought its Cockpit prototype to the CEATEC floor, causing quite a stir among passersby. The dash itself was little more than a semi-functional mockup, presenting recorded rendered video on the main 20-inch LCD and dual 10.4-inch secondary displays. The main display's current objective appears to be improving safety, using a series of cameras to eliminate blind spots and alert drivers to other road hazards. It's about a serial killer loose in 1849 Baltimore." As for the actual plot, he stated that "at each murder that he does, the killer leaves a clue, and basically Poe is set against the clock to find someone before they die." The screenplay was co-written by Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare. Relativity & Rogue Pictures will be distributing the film and have set a release date of March 9th, 2012 next year

I actually find Google maps the website is better than Google earth for actually navigating maps with a split panel of the street view.. It seems those slackers behind Google Earth haven't really been pulling their socks up on development. I guess like most of Google's stuff

Win 8 task manager looking ... either massively dumbed down, or over bloated ..by bloat I'm talking about the column/row size increases per process.. and process explorer had search process using default browser.. win8 task manage must be hardcoded IE & bing shite... And who the heck have they got designing the UI? centered window titles? square cyan shit looking aero metro fail design.

91% of Kids Are wondering why their parents are such gullible & deluded slave suckers to government officialdom, lying media & legal lording policy degenerates. Now that would be a frightening statistic facing statist farm controlling bullshitters..

"The FX-8150 can't quite match the overall performance of the Core i5-2500K, and it costs $29 more, as well."

thing is, AMD platform is cheaper overall. I am all for intel and I would pay more, but not everyone is like me. You can get a pretty decent mobo for AMD @ ~100$ (AM3, not AM3+ )and you can't get those features/quality for intel in that price range. You would need to go 170+ $
not to mention that intel is changing sockets like a hooker it's customers and almost every time you want a new generation CPU you need to change mobo (read: sell your old 200$ mobo for ~100 or less $ then buy a new 200$ mobo) while on AMD you are usually fine with whatever you had. AM2 lasts like forever, AM2+ also and if you bought AM3 you are good for another 2 years.

I just built a couple new AMD rigs for the kids. Picked up two X2 560's black editions for eighty dollars with two Asus AM3+ miniatx unlocker boards. Unlocked all extra cores plus oc'ed them to 4ghz in seconds. This and a daily shell shocker for two 8gig of ram kits and two cases one PSU. I've got two pretty swank machines now for a couple hundred bucks. I chose the Asus boards with the onboard nvidia instead of ati until I can get a couple 460's or 560's on the cheap later on to round them out for some mild gaming. Kids already had the two 22" lcd's and I had a leftover Seasonic PSU. Intel couldn't come close in the price department overall. Closest thing I have was 550-600 bucks that the grandparents bought the kids and that is a i5 2500 with similar specs minus the extra cores and the OC. It's a gateway though so the PSU is anemic as is the mobo. I had a bunch of hitachi and a set of wd raptors leftover that I just striped for each comp to help as much even if little with boot times and gaming.

Personally I prefer the i7 or i5 over AMD for personal builds but my AMD rigs still run. My x2 4800+ still runs like a champ with it's seasonic psu 4gb of ram and asus a8n-sli premium. Raptors still run good and it's quite responsive and plays any game today with the gtx 465 in it. My old 7800 gtx 512mb card died (lasted longer than the 8800gtxs).

I still have an older intel qx whatever extreme edition that's 3.2 stock but at over 4 since it's unlocked. That puppy runs like a champ still too and plays and even does encodes you wouldn't bother to upgrade. It's fairly old from few years ago. Surprising how little I've needed to upgrade since about 05' maybe 04'. Extra cores don't help as much as people would think. Difference I've seen is the new SSD's. I've got two 128GB ssd's striped as boot and gaming they make the largest noticable increase in performance this decade than the processors and ram and even video cards. I hope to see the prices fall on these so I can eventually update most of my machines with SSD's to keep them more relevant.

i didn't get that remark about the cores? i5 2500 has full 4 cores, it's not a dual core + HT like most of i5's.

I still run an c2d e8200 OC'ed to 4ghz. Works fine for me, I see no reason to change it.

My remark is mainly because for under a hundred dollars I can get the quad core plus decent headroom oc'ed wise that is cheap to a comparable i5. The i5 performs better in many cases not to mention can meet the OC of the phenoms in most cases but costs much much more.

The i5 would have been 200+ bucks which is more than I spent on an entire pc setup. That same cash got me the cpu + 8gb of ram + cheap tool free case + mobo + psu.

I actually have a core duo lappy and a turion lappy both run fine still except for the newer games.

EDIT: I've had HT p4's and in fact have an old p4 2.4c still running with one of the first radeons (one of the best cards ever made imo especially for ati and agp still rocks ;p). HT is nice but isn't a feature I care about when considering the intel vs amd choice.

Oh, ok I get it. Well, I can't get Ph. 2 black config here for that money unless I buy used one, which is no big deal for me personally but your point is valid. Somewhat what I had in mind with my first post. Although, I can get X6 + very good am3 gigabyte mobo for the sole price of i5 2500. Actually, i5 2500 is very overpriced cpu. I can get i7 chepaer than i5, not mention used ones.

Yea pricing outside the USA for electronics gets out of hand imo. I picked up two phenom2 560 black editions for 70 a pop. Both of the CPU's unlocked all cores at full stock clocks at 3.2ghz. I actually used the couple stock AMD coolers I had laying around that were originally for the x2 4800+. It's amazing looking at the wimpy coolers they box now compared to what they boxed then. The older stocks were pure copper and as large as the thermalrights I bought for the x2 4800+ cpus back in the day. Anyways the older coolers allowed me to clock them up to 4ghz no problem. The Asus boards I bought are am3+ on w/via and nvidia onboard graphics.

All in all I paid nothing for shipping from newegg and got 2 560's 2 8gb ram kits 2 asus mobos 2 toolfree cases 1 psu 2pcie wireless cards for the price that it would of cost me for one decent i5 and mobo. i5's are around $200 for what I'm interested in anyways and if I had to buy a mobo the cheap solutions just aren't attractive at all.

Anyways once I get a couple gtx460's or 560's in them they will run the newest games for quite awhile. The old p4 2.4c still runs everything except newer games and even has trouble with league of legends but with xp can still play any flash game or small indie game without issue.

Hope the 560's come down in price same with the SSD's. I got a deal on the two 128gb SSD's earlier this year with a nice rebate that made them about 100 bucks a piece. Performance increase was well worth it.
