TechNews - 3-D Internet Will Arrive In Five Years - tech

  • Core i7 920 to EOL in Q2 2010 - Fudzilla reports that Intel will officially end production of the Core i7-920 during this quarter. The 920 was essentially replaced by the Core i7-930 last month. It runs at 2.8GHz with 8MB of L3 cache and 4.8 GT/sec QPI interface. Intel's list price is $294, $10 more than the Core i7-920.
  • Intel to Ship Samples of Experimental 48-core Processor - If this article is correct, sample 48-core processors will be shipped to researchers by the end of the second quarter of this year.
  • GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5830 1GB Video Card Tested -  Love it or hate it, the HD 5830 is here to stay and some may feel that it's a better option over something like a HD 5770 because ATI tend to focus on adding performance to their higher end models. With the HD 5830 falling in the HD 5800 series range, one would hope that it may see more of a performance bump than models in the HD 5700 series. The models are beginning to come in thick and fast and we've got a couple here from a few different companies. More important than bandwidth speed is an SSDs operational performance, measured in IOPS. Unquestionably, the best operational IOPS performance between AHCI and IDE configurations was IDE-mode. IOPS results were always more consistent and usually much higher when the SATA controller was set to IDE-mode instead of AHCI..
  • Samsung N210 Netbook Review - PureOverclock posted a review of the Samsung N210 Netbook, which is very similar to the majority of the current netbooks on the market, based on the Intel Atom N450 processor and offering limited upgrades. While there isn't much in terms of computing power increase on the CPU, the advantage here is that lower power consumption is offered, which results in a longer battery life.
  • Early Windows 7 SP1 build leaks - The build, 6.1.7601.16537.amd64fre.win7.100327-0053, appears to be a recent compile from March 27. Early reports, from enthusiast site GeekSmack, indicate the build is quick to install but it's not clear whether it includes the promised USB 3.0 support or enhanced Bluetooth and Wi-fi stacks.

So this will save the Flash as a method of making animations but will help kill flash as a plugin.

  • Intel Guru Says 3-D Internet Will Arrive In Five Years - A technology guru at Intel Corp. predict that the internet will look significantly different in five to 10 years, when much of it will be three dimensional, or 3D. Sean Koehl, a technology evangelist with Intel Labs, said technology is emerging that will one day change the way we interact with electronic devices and with each other. That could come as soon as five years from now when, he predicted, there will be realistic-looking three-dimensional applications.

  • iPad Components Cost $259 - Apple's (AAPL) iPad tablet computer costs as little as $259.60 to build, according to analysis by the research firm iSuppli. Materials for the iPad, which went on sale Apr. 3, include a touchscreen display that costs $95 and a $26.80 processor designed by Apple and manufactured by Samsung Electronics, according to El Segundo (Calif.)-based iSuppli.

  • New Full-Length Trailer for Ong Bak 3 - Here's a brand new full-length trailer for Tony Jaa's Ong Bak. I guess the fact that all 3 movies are called Ong Bak is a little misleading, but understandable from a marketing standpoint. The first Onk Bak was just about a dude with crazy skills kicking people's ass in the city, while 2 and 3 seem to go the fantasy route and are not connected to the first movie whatsoever. But the name is familiar and will most likely attract an audience...What do you think?

Do NOT use petroleum jelly to clean your discs unless you want to fuck up the lense on your cd drive. Use a mild abrasive like Brasso or toothpaste instead.

I've never used Petroleum jelly -or vaseline- to clean a CD.
As you have said, Brasso is superb, leaves absolutely no residue -that a cloth can't remove and wont bugger up your drive. I've got cd's which can't even play working with Brasso again.
Why bother with the hassle of Vaseline??

Windows 7, i think i'll wait for the service pack, no rush for good things comes those who wait... plus it'll be slightly cheaper in a year or so.
