Following the debut of a trailer at BlizzCon, game director Dustin Browder announced that Legacy of the Void will not require a copy of Starcraft II to play, a move that he says will allow first-time players and established fans alike the chance to dive into Starcraft II.
Legacy of the Void adds new multiplayer units to the game, creating a new competitive experience, as well as a brand new single player campaign. Ontop of that, Blizzard has added two new game modes that focus on co-op play in Archon Mode and Allied Commanders. Archon Mode is a competitive multiplayer mode where two players share control over a single base and units as they tackle an enemy a similarly paired enemy duo. By sharing the responsibility micro and macro management, players can focus on their own unique strengths to execute complex strategies. Allied Commanders, on the other hand, is an objective-based and cooperative experience. Players team up and take on the roles of powerful commanders characters from the StarCraft series, with each commander offering unique skills, upgrades and bonuses to their units. Fighting together, players must battle through a series of unique scenarios together, leveling up their commanders as they progress through this new game mode.
