HomeLAN chats with Bitmap Brothers' Ed Bartlett as he talks about their plans for Speedball Arena, their upcoming and newest game in their long running futuristic sport game series. Here is a snip:
HomeLAN: Obviously the big attraction is playing Speedball Arena against human opponents. How are you developing a code to ensure that the game plays smoothly online?
Ed Bartlett: The biggest problem for me is making the online interface as simple as possible so that people aren't sitting around waiting for too long, and also automating as much of the game systems as possible so that once you are in, you stay in and you can concentrate on playing the game. You can expect to find features such as chat, buddy lists so you can see which of your team members are online and a slick spectating mode to allow you to watch your opponents form, scout for new talent and even record your own games to watch later to see exactly where your strengths and weaknesses lie.
