- Post a comment / read (4) IGN is reporting that the July NPD numbers have been released and the Sony PlayStation 4 is the best-selling console for the seventh month in a row.
For the seventh straight month, PlayStation 4 was the best-selling
console in the United States, edging out its competition in the form of
Microsoft's Xbox One and Nintendo's Wii U for the month of July, 2014.
This news, which comes from the NPD Group, comes on the heels of Sony's
announcement that PlayStation 4 has sold over 10 million units in about
nine months' time.
As far as next-gen software sales are considered, Sony claims it won
the race "by a considerable margin." The Last of Us: Remastered -- a
game we gave a 10 to -- was the best-selling overall game, according to
Sony, and PS4 software "accounted for more than half of total next
generation software sales."
If you combine PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 hardware sales,
PlayStation outsold the Xbox brand when considering both Xbox 360 and
Xbox One.
Here are the top 10 software sales for the US for the month of July,
2014. As always, remember that the platforms listed next to each title
are in order of best-selling SKU to worst:
1.) The Last of Us (PS4, PS3)
2.) Minecraft (360, PS3)
3.) FIFA 14 (360, PS4, XBO, PS3, PSV)
4.) Watch Dogs (PS4, 360, PS3, XBO, PC)
5.) Mario Kart 8 (NWU)
