Sony May Cut PS6 Memory to 24GB to Fight Rising Costs - console

Sony is considering slashing the PlayStation 6's unified memory from a hoped-for 32GB down to 24GB due to ongoing memory shortages and high production costs. Leaker KeplerL2 suggests reducing the memory bus to 128-bit as a practical compromise that could save about $60 per unit on the bill of materials while improving chip yields. This change would simply involve disabling one memory controller on the SoC. Developers would reportedly prefer 24GB with slightly lower performance over bigger cuts like reduced storage.
