SK hynix Unveils Breakthrough 1c LPDDR6 Memory for On-Device AI - tech

SK hynix has successfully developed the industry's first 16Gb LPDDR6 DRAM using its advanced sixth-generation 10nm-class (1c) process technology. This next-generation low-power memory achieves base operating speeds exceeding 10.7 Gbps, delivering up to 33% faster data processing compared to LPDDR5X through expanded bandwidth and innovative sub-channel designs. Power efficiency improves by more than 20% thanks to dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) and other optimizations tailored for AI workloads. The new LPDDR6 is specifically designed to enhance on-device AI performance in smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices, promising smoother multitasking and longer battery life. Mass production preparations are underway for the first half of 2026, with shipments expected to begin in the second half of the year. This milestone strengthens SK hynix's position in building a comprehensive memory portfolio optimized for the growing demands of edge AI applications.
