Those unfamiliar with Savage should get familiar with it. This series is something special and while the first game had problems, it provided a very fast-paced and fun experience. The basic set-up is easy to understand, mastering it as a team is the challenging part, much like a game of Battlefield 2. But instead of dealing with modern combat, we get the chance to battle through a fantasy landscape using melee weapons, magic, and crazy technology. The combination is really cool and as you can see from this video, the engine is very good. Each team will begin with a commander who is voted into the position. This commander is responsible for the overall strategy of the game as well as the construction of the base and harvesting of basic resources. The commander can hand out extra sums of resources to players, give direct commands to players on the field, and direct research to allow players on the field to purchase upgrades and items. Unlike Savage 1, players will also be able to construct buildings should a commander be completely useless. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the in-team conflict that could crop up during gameplay sessions.
