GameSpy has posted a brief preview of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, GSC Gameworld's upcoming first person shooter. Here is a bit:

In some ways, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s gameplay could be compared to the wide-open worlds of the latest Grand Theft Auto games crossed with the exploration of an MMORPG. Unlike most first-person shooters, there isn't a linear progression of levels; most of the world, all 30 square kilometers of it, is open to you from the start. You can dive straight into the heart of the world if you choose, but you might not be ready for what you find there; you'll probably want to take on some easier missions first.

One of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s most interesting aspects is the living, breathing world in which it's set. You'll encounter a variety of strange (sometimes mutated) creatures roaming the zone -- some of them will immediately attack when they see you, some might ignore you, and others might just run away when you shoot. As you might expect, you'll also run into other stalkers, who may react to you in a variety of ways. Some might be immediately hostile, while others may be neutral and simply react to your actions. You may occasionally find it necessary to shoot other stalkers, but doing so runs the risk of building up a bad reputation, which could make life hard later on -- don't leave witnesses!

Well I'm excited by this title, but alas it's taking a long time and my interest is dwindling. I don't care really for the updates but hoping they release a playable demo soon. I played the Alpha version and it was looking impressive.

Nope, just want to see more of it in terms of gameplay movies. Screenshots only go so far.

Err there is a movie on the website looks tha bomb, Me thinks this game is gonna give codemasters a run for their money big time. Ofp2 better be good! else this will 0wn its arse

How can you compare OFP2 and stalker? :D I mean ofp2 is a combat-simulator. You can drive tanks ,fly helos and stuff. Stalker takes place is some mutant-2006 time and its based on a book! :D

Looks great, obviously, but it's the RPG ideas that make it. This looks like one to get lost in for a few weeks. :-)
