RTX 2080 is up to 50 percent faster than the 1080 - tech

With preorders already live, Nvidia is now revealing that there will be some noticeable gains from a GTX 1080 to the new RTX 2080. Games like PUBG, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Hitman 2, Wolfenstein II, and Shadow of War will be around 50 percent faster on an RTX 2080 at 4K resolution. Nvidia also claims 4K running at 60 fps is now possible with the RTX 2080 in games like Call of Duty WW2, Destiny 2, Far Cry 5, and Battlefield 1. Nvidia’s GTX 1080 Ti was always close to (or achieved) the 4K / 60 ideal, and as these performance gains are only being revealed with the RTX 2080, the RTX 2080 Ti should have some reasonable headroom for modern titles at 4K / 60. Nvidia is also revealing that games like PUBG, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy XV are seeing around 75 percent or more improved performance when developers utilize its new Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS) rendering technique. DLSS utilizes the new Turing cores embedded in the RTX 2080 to apply deep learning and AI to render objects in games. It’s part of Nvidia’s overall RTX work, and the company is planning to fully detail many of its AI improvements at a later date. The greatest performance gains will clearly be seen in games that utilize ray tracing or this new AI rendering technique, but we’ll need to test the RTX 2080 fully to see how well it performs for 4K / 60 in the modern games that launch without support for ray tracing or DLSS.

lies...we already saw tombraider working like 1060 would.

Lies? Maybe. But that's what marketing is about. Find a fact that can be proven true for whatever context in court and create a message around that and make it sound like it applies to all their shit. This works until they get red-handed but they won't because they did not state that this card will deliver the 50% performance boost with all bells and whistles enabled - and at that point, it's no longer a lie, is it?
You will also notice that they did not define what performance means. It's obviously not FPS - I am guessing it's the raw estimated performance of all cores on the card, at maximum clock speeds. Which does not mean shit unless you can use all cores (including AI and raytracing cores) at maximum clocks speeds - which is not going to be the case for a long time.

On this RTX thingie.
They are running out of steam (much like Intel) and getting competition from AMD, so they want to create a new market for themselves.
Personally, I think all this AI marketing nonsense will blow over in a while, along with raytracing.
Raytracing has its use, but not in the way they want to sell it to gamers.
They are trying to do the right thing but they are using the wrong tools.

So, it's a bit like that card for the coin miners: there is a minority that can appreciate these new features because they use them. Gamers? No so much. (Read: not at all.)

well, they could compare tensor cores performance 1080 vs 2080 and say 2080 is infinitely faster. And yes, they (nVidia) don't measure performance in fps anymore but they did not describe what the other method measures. Then they proceed to put up images with graphs like the one in the article. They are measuring the "new" performance. Now, that would be FINE if they compared 2xxx vs 2xxx cards, but they go for the pascal generation and lie. Lie, because they didn't tell what they are measuring.

As for AMD, they are not a competition to them at all. Hence the new pricing (mining craze like prices from the get-go). Only competition nVidia has atm is their older Pascal line.

As for coin card, idk what you are talking about. If you are talking about cards like P106 etc. they are fine for gaming, they just can't be the primary display cards. But they dont make sense for gaming because they cost the same as the gaming variants.

Bet you Koogle has it pre-ordered....

The similarities of his thinking is like Stumpus. Dumb as shit and needs to up his ego bragging rights.
