Revolutionary soft-body physics in CryEngine3 - briefly
(hx) 12:08 PM CEST - May,29 2012 - Post a comment / read (9)
The amazing soft-body physics you know from Rigs of Rods, now even better in CryEngine3. Anything can be built in the Beam physics system - cars, trucks, planes, boats, trains, cranes, tanks, helicopters, and even destructible map objects and crash test dummies. It's all real physics. Anything is possible. This is still an early work in progress - don't mind the shading and collision issues.

Flatout (the first) already provided half of this several years ago.
I am glad to see that other members of the industry are catching up.

Flatout never attempted any kind of realism.
It's still fun though.

Get with the program, or start trolling again, at least you were good at that.

No, but it offered the best physics at the time - and it is still better than most; especially after modding it a bit to make it more realistic.

Was hoping it would show vehicle crashes, not just into static solid objects.
Carmageddon (et al) was my fav sandbox games. I remember getting the time crack for the demo and simply playing it for HOURS!! used to just 'toy' with the other cars and just kill peds for to keep time clock going,Repulsificator anyone? Got to love the stupid names of the drivers, pit bull, mother trucker, buzz lightweight, heinz faust, screwie lewie.
I'm sure to this day i NEVER found all the shortcuts on all levels and fully explored everything. The camera suite in TDR was brilliant, amazing slow-mo right down to fragments of glass and gibs. (1/8sec if i remember?) Pretty sweet for it's time.
I got a complimentary pack from SCI for plugging it on the net.
Though i doubt it will ever be as good as it was back in its day, very rarely do games from the 90's make an impact today. Completely different generation and mind set. If it had guns -ala, Interstate '76, another timeless classic :salut:
