Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that they're planning to release a redesigned version of the PlayStation 2 system beginning April 18th in Japan. The new unit, which is modeled after the American system, will feature a built-in expansion bay for the upcoming hard-drive / Ethernet bundle scheduled for release this summer in Japan. A separate external harddrive/ethernet package will also be available for existing PlayStation 2 users. The new unit, officially known as SCPH-30000, will also include the PlayStation 2 DVD-Remote. Pricing for the redesigned unit remains undisclosed.
