Rally Racer Colin McRae Killed In Helicopter Crash - briefly

Colin McRae, whose fascination with cars grew into an obsession that led him to 25 wins in a World Rally Championship career, was killed in a helicopter crash along with his 5-year-old son and two others, police said Sunday. He was 39.  McRae was piloting the helicopter, which he owned and was licensed to fly, when it crashed Saturday in a wooded area near his home.  McRae won 25 races in his career in the World Rally series, winning the championship in 1995 before retiring in 2004. He is best known to console and PC gamers for lending his name to a number of highly regarded and best selling rally racing games for developer/publisher Codemasters, including this year's off-road racing game Colin McRae's DiRT.

So unfair and stupid! I just don't get why these people have to die. If there's something that resembles god up there, he's not doing his job properly.

Some nice folks here.
I'll realy miss Colin McRae, his 'duels' with Richard Burns (another untimely loss) were legendary.
I remember reading one article were Colin phoned up Richard (late at night and absolutely steaming drunk!) during a rally championship, hoping that he could put him off his stride. Needless to say he failed :lol:
Saddest thing for me is there's no legacy left since his wee boy was killed :cry:
He was also due to drive the 'Race of Champions' at Wembley (this Dec)with fellow scot David Coulthard

Fantastic talent, and only a few years after the death of Richard Burns. Truely tragic and a great loss to motorsport. RIP McRae, you will be missed by many :(

For over ten years, Colin was part of the Codemasters family and it was a privilege to have a man recognised as a true legend on the team. He always took a keen interest in the game experience, wanting to make sure it was without equal in its portrayal of the sport.

His contribution was inspirational and brought his technical expertise and passion for rally driving to each and every McRae game. Through the popularity of those games, he brought a whole new audience to the sport itself.

Codemasters’ relationship with Colin began through Jim, David and Richard Darling and their condolences, along with ours, are passed to Colin’s family. We are heavy of heart at his passing but we are also brimming with pride at knowing him and to have played a small role in his life.

He will never be forgotten by all at Codemasters.
