Computer Games - What other unique gameplay elements will Psychonauts have? Tim Schafer - Psychonauts seems really different to me than anything that's out there. Mostly because there is an adventure game in there, hiding (at first). In the beginning there is a strong platformer feeling and that sets up the world and all the gameplay mechanics, but then that shell is filled in with characters and stories that you would normally not see in that genre. There is also an RPG element where Raz ranks up and earns new powers and upgrades by performing sub-tasks. And even though all those devices and controls remain consistent in the game, each level has a completely different gameplay idea. In Waterloo World you use telekinesis to move around these big pieces on a hex game board, but then you can talk to the pieces and find out that they all have their own emotional problems, and their own quests they send you on. It's the combination of all these elements that sound like they may not go together--but somehow do really well—that gives Psychonauts its unique gameplay.
