PlayStation 5 sold 118,085 units in its first four days in Japan (November 12 to 15), and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sold 20,534 units in its first six days (November 10 to 15), according to newly published Famitsu numbers.

Here is how PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series’ initial sales compare to those of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, again according to Famitsu numbers:

PlayStation 4 – 322,083 sold in first two days (February 22, 2014 to February 23)
Xbox One – 23,562 sold in first four days (September 4, 2014 to September 7)

Famitsu noted that while PlayStation 4 sales may seem high compared to PlayStation 5, this is because it had a later release in the country (November 2013 in North America and Europe, February 2014 in Japan), allowing Sony Interactive Entertainment to secure a higher number of consoles for sale in Japan.

Here are PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s initial sales numbers for further reference:

PlayStation 3 – 88,443 sold in first two days (November 11, 2006 to November 12)
Xbox 360 – 62,135 sold in first two days (December 10, 2005 to December 11)

On the software side, Marvels’ Spider-Man: Miles Morales was the top-selling PlayStation 5 game at 18,640 units sold, followed by Demon’s Souls at 18,607 units. As for Xbox Series, most games are digital-only in Japan.

Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series platforms sold out immediately upon opening of pre-orders in Japan and continue to face stock shortages. With retailers resorting to lottery-based sales, the consoles are currently difficult to obtain. Supply and sales numbers are expected to increase towards the year-end shopping season.

Lack of launch titles = drop in sales.
Lack of available consoles = drop in sales.
Lack of real next gen console = drop in sales.

They would've known they could've sold 5x the amount of consoles so why didn't they send out 5x more consoles?

What was there, 5 launch titles for each console?
What did the PS4 have? 20?
What did the PS3 have? 30?

So when the PS4Pro+ (aka PS5) only have 3 launch titles thats pathetic.
And $ony saying "play your PS4 games" WHY? Why not save your money and play those PS4 games ON YOUR PS4!!!

At least the XboxSeriesX can play EVERYTHING as its got proper BC so you do only need 1 console where the PS5 wont, its limited to some PS4 games, you need a PS4 controller, PS4 camera +a new adapter, and all it does is play those PS4 games some with glitches but a load up a little quicker. SO?
Thats not next gen to me.
When a console does 8K at 120FPS 100% of the time, NOT PEAK, then that MIGHT be actual next gen. A little faster HDD so games load a little quicker is NOT next gen, as I said its PS4Pro+ NOT next gen actual PS5.

it's ~$300 for an S, I can attach my own storage, not gonna pay sony 300 for storage... don't need another controler, I play solo... and again, for that money, you can't build a PC taht can run 1080p@60fps 90% of the time, let alone 1440p and 4K @30/60/144fps...That would, now, set you back over $1500, without a TV/monitor...

My currency isn’t your currency. Your $300 is equal to £229 which is bullshit. It’s retail price is £449 to buy in my country which is $596 big difference!
You don’t buy or need a monitor for a PS# you just use your tv that you already have, (or parents have) it’s backwards compatible. Meaning that most PS# owners will be playing 1080 or what the TV supports. If on the other hand you have a PC and a decent graphics card then you’ll be throwing that image on a decent monitor or as big a screen as you can afford.

Here’s what I can buy for the price of a PS5 here, with cash back and 9TB of storage that I have

my currency isn't petro dollar, nor do I plan to buy a console ever... PS. That card wont run 1440p @144fps, let alone 4K...You need to look at 2080Ti or newer cards...

I don’t think you’ll find many PS# owners running it at all at that resolution or refresh! :lol: most houses I’ve seen that own consoles on tv are pretty budget models. So I can’t see someone lugging home a PS5 and a decent 4K gaming mode tv. All for under a grand. My 600Hz 46” Panasonic was £2,000

you have seen zero PS5s...I am yet to see a family that still uses 1080p TV...for ~300 of anyone dollar or pound you can get a 43" UHD at least.

Also, I don't care about "other people", 2TB is enough for me, 60fps is the lowest fps. And I can't get 60fps @1080p playing a console port (RDR2 for instance) on:

i7 9700
16GB 3600Mhz ram
1070Ti

that's already a new console and some spare money right there.

it's barley a 100 now, no one wants a stupid plasma and it's squealing (you can hear the white noise coming from the TV) display technology that burns the wall. That's why no one makes it anymore. There's no market for that POS technology, at least not big enough to warrant building plasma TVs anymore.
600Hz is what is making the noise btw. it's not like it can display 600 fps, it's not capable of doing that. It's a pointless number meant to confuse idiots.

Have you guys tried Shadow? For 12 dollars a month, you get a decent gaming PC with a Win10 desktop (where you can run Steam, UPlay, name your poison). Sadly, the latency (~100) kills in the EU, but in NA, it's pretty good (~10ms). Just how many months of PC use can you purchase from that 300 dollars???

A standard video signal is actually a series of still images, flashed on screen so quickly that we believe we are watching a moving image. The typical frame rate used in North America is 60 frames per second (60Hz) meaning that a TV would display 60 individual still images every second. Sub-field drive is the method used to flash the individual image elements (dots) on a plasma panel. For each frame displayed on the TV the Sub-field drive flashes the dots 10 times or more, meaning that the dots are flashing 600 times per second (600Hz) or more. (Example: 60 frames per second x 10 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second).”

Or in the UK’s case, you get 50 frames per second x 12 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second.

To put all this in simpler terms, Panny’s 600Hz TVs retain a normal refresh rate, but activate the plasma pixels more rapidly to make the picture look smoother.

As with all 600Hz TVs, it also carries Panasonic’s Intelligent Frame Creation technology for calculating new frames to sit between the existing ones coming in from a source. The purpose of this being, of course, to make motion look clearer and more fluid.

The point being, you plonker, is it plays games at a refresh rate that is smoother than the eye can see and faster than any gaming panel out there. Whether it’s run by its own internal creation engine is neither here nor there. All panels have to have an internal processor to drive the panel.

Remember this is a TV not a monitor. So your attitude is pathetic.

That 60Hz vs 50Hz is the utility line's frequency, not your screen's, lol
NA has used NTSC traditonally while EU used PAL/SECAM during the analog TV age, but these days all digital panels are the same.
Controllers (to said digital panels) may offer compensation at 50 or 60Hz to eliminate vibration.
Then, from there, they multiply that base refresh rate to 100, 120, 200, 240, whatever one way or another.
Drawing the same image multiple times is not an increase in frame rate, it is an increase in refresh rate.
More refresh rate won't get you much.
Good controllers detect motion on the fly and generate intermediate pictures to smooth movement (add subpictures between refreshes).
