PS3 Overheating a Myth? - console
(hx) 12:29 PM CEST - Oct,07 2006 - Post a comment / read (7)
PSM3Mag.com decided to weigh in on the recent PS3 overheating controversy that many claim is the reason for the recent dip in Sony's share price:
The question is: Does PS3 get hot? Not just 'hot' but 'dangerously' hot or hot enough to cause a malfunction. It has been reported in other circles that machines at the Tokyo Game Show were expiring dut to heat. It has even been suggested that this issue has played a part in the recent dip in Sony's share price. OK. Here's the independent, non-Sony approved truth. We've played a PS3, for a day, in a room, with it on a table in front of us. At no stage did anyone comment about the noise it made (ie, next to none). And a collegue put his hand behind the machine after it had been running for a few hours and felt warm air being quietly and safely extracted via a fan via the vents at the back of the machine. The surface of the machine remained at room temperature with a small portion at the back being 'warm'. Not hot - 'warm'.

So, the PSM3 independent verdict here is that - quote - "PS3 generates less heat and noise than the combination of 360 and powerbrick"

Saw this coming a mile away.

Some people must be breaking their backs to make sure PS3 has a cloud of bad rumors surrounding it.

Witness the true nature of fanboy's you have - dark and cloudly their powers are!

(yeah - plowing through the heaps of bullshit rumours and talk that surrounds the PS3 is a science in it's own.)

yeah the ps3 can't possibly over heat because they tested only one machine (that most likely went through vigorous testing before it was sent out/given out by sony to play test) there for all other ps3 and future ps3 must be totally heat free without errors.

also by that logic if one owner of the xbox360 says his machine ran perfectly fine, no overheat, no issues at all, there for it must mean that all xbox360 ran just as perfectly well, (which of course we know is totally false)

also by that logic if one black man is good at basket ball, all black men must be good at basket ball (which we also know is false)

ridiculous isn't it? well some people certainly don't think so

On the other hand - judging something simply from logic in matter requiering empirical evidence is futile. Thus we need to wait. ;)

if i could cook an egg on it i would still buy one, but at a $1000 aud that aint going to happen for quite a while.

They delayed PS3 cuz of the overheating - no way in hell it can overheat now.

All I am wondering is what do these guys do when they launch their products. Dont they test it at their end, like Xbox had so many heating problems., agreed people might not be using it the right way, not taking care of ventilation but still even people who take care of ventilation have heating problems.
