OUYA game console ships to backers March 28th - console

Ouya announced plans to ship their Android-based gaming console to backers on March 28. A post on the company's website said parts are already in the factory and the assembly line is buzzing away as they gradually ramp up production. The message further advises gamers to keep an eye on their inbox for an e-mail containing tracking information and estimated arrival date.The official launch of the console is set for sometime in June. Pre-orders are now being taken on the OUYA website for the price of $99.99 and it will also be sold in GameStop and Best Buy stores, along with Amazon.com. The young game company also announced the hiring of Kellee Santiago, co-founder of thatgamecompany (responsible for creating Journey and Flower) and partner with Indie Fund. Santiago will join the Ouya team as the leader of developer relations.
OUYAs will begin shipping to Kickstarter backers on March 28. That’s right. Parts are in the factory and assembly lines are buzzing. We’ll gradually ramp up production as we make sure things are working. (Our full launch is still set for June, which is when OUYA will be available in stores!)

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of you will receive your OUYA, and you’ll get to start playing right away. You will also get to watch OUYA evolve over the coming weeks and months. We’ll continue to add new features, refine our user experience, and bring on more games. As always, we appreciate your feedback (and apply it), so keep it coming.

Keep a lookout in your inbox for an email from us. It will have your tracking number and estimated delivery date. Might take a few weeks to get to everyone. We have a lot of OUYAs to ship!

I'm definitely gonna pick this up as a replacement for my RK3066 based Android mini PC. Being Tegra 3 based can only be a good thing, if I am to judge how well performing my LG 4X is.

Shield will follow suit as well.

Why would I bother if it doesn't even have Tegra4 yet which is what will move mobile GPUs much more ahead? $99 is attractive but Tegra3? That old has-been tech? Gah!

Biggest reason at least for me is to see how well it handles homebrew/xmbc. It's also possible that provided I can run emulators I have something I can replace the Wii with eventually.

I do like the price point, small size, and what seem like decent games and LOTS OF THEM verses what seems like a beyond-dead WiiU with such low developer adoption.

Agreed on the WiiU. It's not a bad pricepoint and I plan to wait till other people start picking up the device to gauge it's usefulness. Wii I paid 99 for it new and softmodded with an old wd my book I had laying around. The fact that I can run all the old games and wiiware make it a solid performer in my house. The only real wii games that get played a ton are the just dance (better on kinect imo) the kirby games and some pokepark if it's not the ds/gba pokemons.

Nothing compares to a real htpc. Tried the mini-android htpc and scrapped it. Tegra4 wont change my mind.
