Nvidia Responds to AMD's Cheating Allegations - tech

A few weeks back in the Maximum PC No BS Podcast #226, AMD's newly arrived Gaming Scientist Richard Huddy made some bold accusations about Nvidia's developer relations, such as accusing the company of handing out "black box" files designed to make Radeon cards look bad, and using sketchy contract clauses. Nvidia's Distinguished Engineer Tom Petersen and Senior Director of Engineering Rev Lebaradian came on to the podcast to tell Nvidia's side of the story (Spoilers: They deny the cheating allegations). Also,they bring in the newly launched Shield Tablet and talk about it for a bit. They also answer several reader questions.



When MaximumPCMagazine asked about Mantle (16:00 mark), Tom Petersen said AMD is free to develop and innovate in any area they think is important.
We don't know much about Mantle, we are not part of Mantle. And clearly if they see value there they should go for it. And if they can convince game developers to go for it, go for it. It's not an Nvidia thing. The key thing is to develop great technologies that deliver benefits to gamers. Now in the case of Mantle it's not so clear to me that there is a lot of obvious benefits there.

Tom and I agree on this point. I've been building PCs for twenty years. During that time I've used many different graphics cards of several different brands. Without exception, the ATI cards were always the most problematic. Their drivers have always been and remain (as of 2013) garbage. For my builds, I will not be using AMD (ne ATI) cards again in the foreseeable future.
