Nintendo Wii $250; Launching November 19th

This Reuters story via Yahoo has info
on the Japanese launch of
Nintendo's Wii console
. The console will be in Japan on December 2, a couple of weeks after
the US launch on Nov. 19
. It looks like the Japanese Wii launch will have 16 titles available, less than the 25 or so planned for the US launch. The most-anticipated game comes from Nintendo itself: an installment of the long-running "Legend of Zelda" series, "Twilight Princess." Nintendo also will deliver a driving game called "Excite Truck" this year but will likely provide a minor disappointment to gamers in saying the next version of the popular "Mario" franchise will not arrive until 2007. Nintendo intends to charge $50 for its Wii games, $10 less than the standard price for Xbox 360 titles and the same price generally charged for GameCube games. Top games expected to be introduced for the Wii this year from third-party publishers include a version of "Madden NFL" from Electronic Arts, the sword-fighting game "Red Steel" from Ubisoft of France, an addition to the "Sonic" action series from Sega of Japan and a "Tony Hawk" action-sports game from Activision.

Courtesy of Joystiq's sort of live blogging on the Nintendo press conference in Japan, here's the OFFICIAL info to report on the Wii:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/14/nintendo-japan-conference-not-so-liveblogging/
quote:
-Pricing for the virtual console has been announced. NES games will cost 500 yen, 800 for SNES, and 1000 for N64 -- basically around $5-10 for any game on the VC.
-The Virtual Console will have 30 Nintendo games and 30 Turbo-Grafx and Genesis games available by the end of the year. They plan to release 10 new games a month. (Take that, Xbox Live Arcade.)
-The Wii will launch DECEMBER 2 in Japan at a price of 25,000 yen (about $215).
-Nintendo's new Wii.com website will be launcing by the end of the day.
-A Nintendo press release put out right after the press conference lists the contents of the Wii box: Wii console, Wii remote (w/ strap), Nunchuck attachment, Wii AC adaptor, Wii A/V cable, Wii console stand(?), sensor bar, sensor bar stand and two AA batteries.
-Controller prices have been announced as well: 3800 yen (about $32) for a regular controller, 1800 yen ($15) for both the classic controller and nunchuck attachment.
-Famitsu's reporting 16 titles at launch from ten different publishers at launch. Prices range from 4800 yen ($40) to 6800 yen ($57). The new Legend of Zelda will apparantly cost 6800 yen.
-Wii Sports will not be a pack-in game, but will cost 4800 yen and include five games.

I feel a bit "meh" over the Wii - cool gimick and all but I'm stilling going to see mario milked like the cash-plumber he is, as with the GameCube it feels a bit... lacking.
Don't get me wrong - I'm stilling looking forward to a new Zelda game and getting to flail that controller around! :P

My friend Jason (who works for gamestop) told me this two nights ago. He told me that for $250 you get 2 controllers and Wii Sports. So who knows.
