  • Sony's PSP smashes UK records with 185k sales at launch - The PlayStation Portable has officially enjoyed the biggest launch weekend of any console in the UK, with around 185,000 units of the system being sold in its first three days at retail.
  • SEC Approves GameStop & EB Merger - GameStop and Electronics Boutique Holdings announced today that the registration statement relating to the combination of the two companies has been declared effective by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Both companies expect to begin mailing their joint proxy statement-prospectus on or about September 7, 2005 to stockholders of record as of Tuesday, August 30, 2005.

  • Samsung to Launch HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Player - Samsung will be launching a dual format player sometime next year that supports both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray next gen DVD formats.
  • Rewritable DVD+RW Double Layer to be finalised by year-end - At present, all new DVD writers and some standalone DVD recorders support the writing of DVD+R DL discs, however rewritable's are currently limited to 4.7GB of data or about 2 hours worth of standard quality recording on a DVD recorder. The rewritable double layer disc will be targeted towards standalone DVD recorders and an 8-cm version will be developed for up-coming camcorders that support writing to DVD+RW DL.

  • Japanese Gamers Buying Less Than You Think -  Media polled readers to see how many games they'd bought in the last three months. Those organism infesting animals are just terrifying. I watched a show once where a bug lived in a mans eyeball, and annother one in a P*NIS!
