Nightly Reading - Free Games! - briefly
(hx) 11:47 PM CET - Mar,20 2020 - Post a comment
As you may have guessed, these free offers are mainly due to the Coronavirus. And, as we've seen these past few days, PC gamers can get a lot of PC games for free.
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey Free Weekend - Ubisoft is offering the chance to go on a free odyssey this weekend, as Assassin's Creed Odyssey is free to play on Steam for the next three days
  • Get Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and Tomb Raider for Free - Square Enix is offering Tomb Raider for free on Steam and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is also free on Steam. Each game yours to keep if you pick them up between now and Monday or when they run out of keys.
  • Get Mable & The Wood for Free - GOG.com announces a giveaway of Mable & The Wood as part of their Spring Sale. All you have to do is pick up your copy over the next couple of days and it is yours to keep forever
  • Offroad Racing – Buggy X ATV X Moto and Deiland are currently free to play on Steam - Chibig and Microids have announced that Deiland and Offroad Racing -- Buggy X ATV X Moto are currently available for free to play on Steam. Deiland is a single-player adventure RPG with several sandbox elements, such as farming, crafting, and building. On the other hand, Offroad Racing -- Buggy X ATV X Moto is an offroad racer, offering a huge choice of all-terrain vehicles to get away from everyday life.
  • Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition now available on Steam - As promised, Rockstar has released Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition on Steam. This new Complete Edition removes the Games for Windows Live service, as well as the game's multiplayer mode. Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition will replace both GTA4 and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City. Thankfully, current game save files are compatible with Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition. Furthermore, The Complete Edition includes Grand Theft Auto IV and the Episodes – The Lost and Damned & The Ballad of Gay Tony. Players who have previously installed and played Grand Theft Auto IV or Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be able to update their copy to Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete. The Update file size for those owning GTA Episodes from Liberty City will be approximately 22GB. On the other hand, the Update for those owning GTA4 will be 6GB. Rockstar also noted that all users will need to be connected to the Internet and authenticate their copy of the game.
  • Doom Eternal Concurrent Player Count Reaches 105,000 on Steam - The game hit 105,000 concurrent peak players on Steam on its first day in the wild. For reference, that is more than three times what Doom 2016 ever hit on Steam. If those numbers are similar on other platforms, Doom Eternal is going to be one of the biggest releases for Bethesda in awhile.
  • Call of Duty: Warzone has over 30 million players worldwide in just ten days - Activision has just announced that Call of Duty: Warzone has now over 30 million players worldwide. Thus, this free to play battle royale COD game has been quite successful for the company, something that shouldn't really surprise us. Call of Duty: Warzone came out on March 10th and had 6 million players in its first 24 hours. Then, on March 14th, Activision reported that the game surpassed its 15 million goal. Call of Duty Warzone is actually a cool free to play battle royale game. It runs exceptionally well on the PC platform, and supports cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One. Moreover, Activision has finally included solo plays via its latest update.
  • Steam breaks new record with over 21 million concurrent players, 6 days after setting its previous record - Steam has just broken a new record with over 21 million concurrent players. To be more precise, Steam has peaked at 21,360,226 concurrent players. This number is somehow close to 22 million, so it will be interesting to see whether Steam will set another new record in the following days. Naturally, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is at the top of the games with most concurrent players. DOTA 2 is in the second place, followed by PUBG, Monster Hunter World and Rainbow Six Siege.
  • "Overwhelming majority" of PS4 library will be playable on PS5, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirms - The "overwhelming majority of the 4,000-plus PlayStation 4 titles will be playable on PlayStation 5," Sony Interactive Entertainment clarified in an update to the blog post that accompanied PlayStation 5 lead system architect Mark Cerny's PlayStation 5 technical presentation earlier this week. PlayStation 4 titles will “run at a boosted frequency on PlayStation 5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions,” Nishino said. Games are currently being evaluated on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need to be addressed by game's developers.
