NHL 20 Revealed - briefly

- Post a comment As usual, EA’s new NHL game was revealed at the annual NHL Awards. Titled NHL 20, this year’s installment in the long running hockey game series features Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs as the cover athlete. This year’s color scheme is comprised of hues of blue and purple instead of NHL 19’s strikingly orange branding. The trailer bellow confirms that NHL 20 will launch in the same week in September that it usually does; this year, it means the game is arriving for PS4 and Xbox One on September 13. Even though this trailer doesn’t really highlight many new improvements, the official press release does. While NHL 19 focused on improving the multiplayer experience with World of CHEL, NHL 20 is bringing gameplay improvements in the form of a new Signature Shot feature, refined goaltender AI, new commentary, redesigned scoreboards and other overlays, and a Play of the Game feature you may recognize from titles like Overwatch. World of CHEL hasn’t been ignored though, as it is getting new maps, apparel, and weekly in-game events. While those are all welcome additions, the new Eliminator mode may be the most surprising new feature. Eliminator applies to both Ones and Threes, and actually adds a mode inspired by battle royale titles to the hockey game. Yes, you read that right. 81 players are put into a survival tournament against each each and attempt to be the last player or team of three standing. If you’ve recovered from that reveal, EA also confirmed that Ones will finally be getting local multiplayer, a highly requested inclusion following NHL 19, and that Hockey Ultimate Team is getting a Squad Battle mode like FIFA. NHL 20 will release for PS4 and Xbox One on September 13, though those who pre-order will gain access on September 10.
