Next-Gen console specs are not powerful enough? - briefly
(hx) 02:27 AM CEST - May,23 2012 - Post a comment / read (7)
Epic Games has reportedly been shown the specifications of the next Xbox and Playstation consoles, and don't believe they are powerful enough.
he Unreal Engine, which has been built within Epic Games, is the single most used video game engine in today's releases. Currently being built upon in the labs at Epic Games is the next iteration of the Unreal Engine, which will be the Unreal Engine 4. In the presence of this technology, Epic Games has a designated idea of what the next generation of consoles need to be able to provide in order to deliver the type of performance that they are building their engine for.

With this being said, Epic Games has recently caught a glimpse of what the specs for next-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox 720, will look like. In response, they have stated that they are not going to be enough to provide the type of performance that they are building their next engine for, and are pushing Sony and Microsoft to put more performance into their next systems. Below, you will find a quote that was given by Epic Games previously that implied what type of performance they wanted from next gen console. Sadly, it has appeared that, as Epic Games has recently been shown the specs for these consoles, that they will not be living up to expectations.

Ha ha, The PC is always gonna be steps ahead no matter what they release.

Epic Games has to realize that this is a console. Epic makes engines that need the most powerful PCs to play. A console will never be able to compete with that.

Also, Epic Games doesn't know how to optimize an engine. I'll bet that the next Half-Life title will have better graphics than Unreal Engine 4, but will also be able to run on the Xbox 720 and mid-range PCs.

Consoles are cheap. That's one of the main reasons they sell.
One of the trade-offs is performance.
End of story.

You are missing the point here. All EPIC is saying is that the next gen consoles that is coming isnt really a next gen...
Its a pile of shit for the masses

It's all about keeping your revenue streams open and producing. MS and Windows 8 primarily. Sony is shit period so who gives a fuck what they do, bunch of fucking indian givers can keep their PS4 and shove it up their ass. I'll never touch another console from these POS. Xbox 720? How gay is that name? Nice creativity.

Of course reading between the lines Epic are just $hit stirring to keep a hold of the PC fraternity. Like all dev's and publishers they get a cut for promoting hardware on their game boxes, websites etc exclusive deals with M$, AMD,Intel and so on In this day and age of job losses
And software houses closing, they are flapping big time of the threat from the 'next gen' features. Just look at how much phone and tablet gaming has increased? Before it was a joke, now with integra cpu's for a start it's leaped into millions of game sales. Portable gaming Inc consoles is the lifestyle of today's generation. Download play on the move quick fix in house. PC is for a session, which more and more people have no time for.
