The Paris-Dakar Rally is a 6000km overland race. Which naturally makes it one of the world’s most popular spectator sports, right up there with strip lawn bowls and rugby. It is, apparently, one of the richest off-road races in the world, featuring a mix of motorcycles and buggies tearing across the barren landscape in pursuit of the big, fat winners cheque.
Broadsword Interactive has been charged with recreating the sand-in-eyes thrills of this immense race, bringing the game to both PS2 and PC. The game is obviously much shorter than the real thing, with 6000km being squeezed down to a game-friendly 300km, but that’s more than enough to provide decent racing action. There’s a wealth of different vehicles to choose from, depending on your tastes. Bikes are quick and agile, but vulnerable; buggies are nippy and handle well; off-road trucks are double hard – the choice is yours. [more]
