New 1TB PS4 is basically a recycled model - console

Last June, Sony unveiled a second base SKU for the Playstation 4, offering an upgraded internal storage capacity, out of the box. The new model housed a 1TB internal hard drive, which doubled the storage available for games and content, in comparison to the standard 500GB model offered since launch. This has left two base models of the Playstation 4 available on shelves. Alongside this announcement, Sony also detailed a revision of the Playstation 4 hardware, which aimed to improve some of the minor flaws found since release. According to TechRadar, the newer 1TB model is in fact not using this new hardware, and instead the older configuration sold at launch, packed with an upgraded hard drive.
The new CUH-1200 hardware update for the PlayStation 4 is only available right now in 500GB trim. And it's definitely the console update you want, not the storage upgrade.

We've just finished testing the new PlayStation 4 revision, and it's an impressive hardware update to the top current-gen console, but at the moment it's only available in the 500GB version of the PS4.

The current 1TB versions of the console are still the same original CUH-1100 series models, only with a different hard drive offering increased storage capacities.

Around where it designates the storage capacity on the box it will also display the model number. If it says CUH-1200, or similar, then you're in luck, that's the new updated PS4. If it says CUH-1100 or the like, then you need to look elsewhere.

That's Sony all right.

Ya and don't forget they'll put the crappiest of hard drives in there too. What was it for PS3? It was some low-end Samsung hard drive. Ah well, I guess if there's stupid enough people who will buy a PS4 in the first place.
