MS denies any Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive possibility - console

While statistics from the Digital Entertainment Group clearly show a spike in Blu-ray movie sales (91% in the first half of this year), Microsoft once again denied that a Blu-ray player for the Xbox 360 was in the making. A Microsoft spokesperson had this to say:
As we have stated before, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360. We have a long-standing high definition strategy that runs across gaming and premium content, and it's a strategy that continues to pay off for us. Today, we offer the largest library of blockbuster games and offer a growing library of nearly 20,000 movies and TV episodes on Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace (more than 5,000 in HD). In addition, people have access to 12,000 films and TV episodes on Netflix Instant watch. And coming this fall, Xbox LIVE will launch digital movies with instant on 1080p HD streaming so you can experience the best video quality with no disc, no download and no delay.
So with that in mind, it looks like those who enjoy their Xbox 360's will not be seeing a Blu-ray drive hitting the market anytime soon. However if Blu-ray were to become the top-selling format for hard copies of movies, one would assume Microsoft would change their mind. Blu is only now catching up with the features and quality that HD-DVD was delivering from day one. And thank god for that. Now if the prices will start dropping to the level of HD-DVD media, we can all rest soundly. There's a reason that there are still fewer stand-alone Blu players than there are HD-DVD players out there, and primarily it's because the videophiles know that today's Blu player probably won't play tomorrow's discs, which continues to give the edge to general purpose players like the PS3.

Ones is only for games the other is for a TRUE home entertainment system.
Blu Ray movies are uncompressed audio and visual heaven.
The XBox is just a kid-on version of the BBC i player. (I can watch movies on my Nokia 5800 lol, it's nothing new) How on earth anyone can even contemplate downloading a HEAVILY compressed HD film is beyond me. Lets face it it is! What i have read is it broadcasts in 720p so as to reduce the capacity -let's face it, there is NO way that you Xbox owners are going to download a 15/30GIG movie ROFL!!!!! Whereas us Blu Ray owners get spoilt TRUE audio and 1080p UNCOMPRESSED near lossless quality pumped out from a 50gig disc.

Now just like music or films, if you want the exact quality, then you have got to OWN the ORIGINAL to rip (MP3) or view from (Blu Ray)
But hey, M$ has this festering back catlogue of DEAD HD films that it just HAS to make money out of somehow
Me, well i'm watching 'Wanted' and 'Gran Torino' on rented Blu Ray on my PS3 AND i can keep the films for as long as i like with no M$ time limit 8)

You are obviously BLIND! XBox HD films are DEAD!! That's facts NOT rants. How great it is watching a time limited movie that you download onto your XBox, Fact. listen, i can watch downloaded movies on my phone. But if we're talking true film buff territory, you don't go bloody well using the internet to download poor compressed quality films and stick them on your TV in 720p. Like that's why you DON'T own a PS3. I DO because it's the BEST blu ray player out there for everything! Future proof. An XBox is primarily a games console and a poor, poor film viewer. Exactly how many watch films on it? Not very many at all. My PS3 is output 7.1 via HDMI through a dedicated Sony home Cinema system, It bangs out blu ray in 1080P 24fps. People view films and comment on the quality, then you tell them it's a console and they don't believe you. Why? because it's the over 40 year olds that own MORE PS3s for home cinema than for gaming, sadly the same can't be said for the XBox lol, and that's a FACT

Bluray kicks the shit out of HD DVD, plain and simple. Downloaded movies, pfff I got no comment for those. I still think Xbox is $100 plus over priced. MS losing money on it? Ya right. LOL!
