I watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Sunday. To be honest I was a little doubtful of this movie, but this sci-fi comedy is actually really very funny. It is about Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman) who is whisked away by his best friend Ford Perfect (Mos Def) just as Earth is demolished (so a intersteller freeway could be built). The two eventually end up on a ship commanded by President of the Universe Zaphold Beeblebrox (Sam Rockwell), Arthur's one time love interest Trillian (Zooey Deschanel), and a manic depressive robot. They are on a strange journey to find, "the Question". You'll see...It definitely won't appeal to everyone, though.

The Xbox 360 launch here is December 2, but I haven'treally noticed anything on TV yet, which kinda surprises me. I called the local store here and they don't know anything about the Xbox 360 launch yet. Another online shop told me they should have the consoles on December 5th, but they don't know much details yet. OMG...:)

  • Microsoft will wipe Sony's 'rootkit' - To protect Windows users, Microsoft plans to update Windows AntiSpyware and the Malicious Software Removal Tool as well as the online scanner on Windows Live Safety Center to detect and remove the Sony BMG software, the software maker said in its blog.
  • Microsoft urges users to update Flash Player - In an unprecedented move, Microsoft has issued a critical advisory urging users to apply a critical update from Flash Player update from Macromedia.
  • AOL, Warner Bros. Form In2TV to Offer Free Online TV Reruns - "Welcome Back Kotter" is just one of the dozens of old television shows that will soon be available for free online thanks to a deal announced on Monday between America Online Inc. and Warner Brothers. This joint venture creates a new broadband network, called In2TV, which will be launched in early 2006. In2TV will showcase full-length episodes from series such as Welcome Back Kotter, Sisters, Beetlejuice, Lois & Clark, La Femme Nikita, Kung Fu and Growing Pains FREE and on-demand on the Web.
  • Sony Faces Another Class-Action Suit - Sony BMG is facing yet another class-action lawsuit stemming from the controversy over its anti-piracy software, this time from a New York attorney who filed a federal case that could potentially include consumers in all 50 states.
  • Google offers Web Analysis Tools for free - Google is offering webmasters full-featured, powerful analytics package from Urchin to determine how many people are visiting their sites, to view the source of referrals to your site and what they're clicking on.
  • Google offers Mountain View free wireless Internet - Internet giant Google is offering to cloak its home city in Silicon Valley with free wireless "Wi-Fi" computer service, the company confirmed.
  • Gigabyte Einstein Windows Smartphone Photos - The specifications are amazing for such a small device, the Gigabyte Einstein is small enough to compete directly with the size of handsets from Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola.   • Tyco Shell Shocker RC CyberBeast/CyberBall (Almost Samus) - This new RC monstrosity from Tyco transforms from cyberbeast to cybercall and uses flipping action to move about, and has the ability to drive over obstacles too. We saw one of these recently and it's bigger than it appears - just about the same size as a bowling ball. It's also the closest thing to an RC Samus as you can get (other than going cosplay, and that's just not the same thing.)

  • Earth 2160 ships - Midway Games today announced that Earth 2160, the sequel in the top-selling EARTH series of real-time strategy (RTS) titles, has shipped to stores nationwide and is available for play on the PC.
  • Area 51 US patch v1.2 - Last August Midway quietly released retail patches for Area 51, upgrading the US edition of their sci-fi first-person shooter to version 1.2. This release adds support for ATI Radeon 8500-9200 Pro cards, improves sniper scope zooming, fixes some graphics issues. The European path v1.1 can be found here. (thanks 3DGamers)
  • BF2 Punkbuster Update - Version 1.219 of the PB Client for BF2 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This is a maintenance release.

  • Babylon 5 interview - Gamecloud has posted an interview with J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5 creator) as he explains what happened to the B5 game, and the possibility of future game projects based on the cult-favorite science fiction series.
  • Half-Life 2 Xbox Reviewed - IGN has reviewed the Xbox version of Half-Life 2. It received an impressive score of 9.4, just barely below the PC version's 9.7 rating.
  • Ubisoft Develops FPS for the Revolution - The developers behind Beyond Good & Evil are working on a FPS for Nintendo's next-gen console. The game will apparently be unveiled at E3 2006. The only details known about the game are that it will take full advantage of the Revolution's unique controller and that it will take place in a Doom-like setting.
  • Volvo Releases Special Xbox Promo Game - Volvo will release a special Xbox game for its dealerships and auto shows called Volvo Drive for Life. Word is "Everything within the game, from the cars to the surroundings, is modeled from scratch to create test tracks and driving environments that illustrate the strengths of the active safety features of each vehicle represented in the game. Players will experience firsthand the benefits of Volvo's world-class safety features such as Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), Four-C Chassis, and Roll Stability Control (RSC), while testing their skills in the challenging game environment."
  • EA DL Service Launch Announcement - In addition to previously announced preloads of the imminent Special Forces expansion for Battlefield 2, the service is preparing North American preloads of a new Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack.
  • EA announces holiday price cuts - Games that have been cut from $49.99 to $39.99 include Burnout Revenge, NBA Live 06, NASCAR 06, Tiger Woods 06, The Sims 2: Nightlife, and the PSP's Need for Speed Underground Rivals. $29.99 deals include SSX On Tour and Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.

I really liked The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy too. The start could be annoying with these dolphins, I even wanted to turn it off then. But after it's becoming more and more amusing. Great humour. I'd even like to read the novel someday.
