Happy New Year to all of you who make this website possible. I look forward to giving you more gaming/tech news in 2013, and I hope next year will be a happy and healthy one for everyone!
  • Crystal Dynamics adding multiplayer mode to Tomb Raider - The first details about the game's multiplayer mode will appear in the February 2013 issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which should be shipping to subscribers now (it'll be available at newsstands on January 8).
  • Black Ops 2 - Revolution Map Pack DLC Revealed  - A reddit user has uploaded a picture of a poster that supposedly showcases the first downloadable content for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Titled “Revolution,” the pack will contain four multiplayer maps (Downhill, Grind, Hydro, Mirage), one Zombies map (Die Rise), and one new weapon (Peacekeeper SMG). A second set of images show that the pack will be released first through the Xbox Live Marketplace on January 29. If history is any guide, the pack will be available for PC and PS3 (and hopefully Wii U) owners a month later.
  • EA Server Shutdowns - EA has updated its list of Service Updates, revealing multiplayer servers that are hitting end-of-life.  There are only a few PC titles impacted: The Sims 2 for PC/MAC and TheSims2.com will shut down on January 14, FIFA Soccer 11 for PC and consoles will conclude on January 11, and FIFA Manager 11 for PC ends on January 3.
  • End of an Era: PS2 Stops Shipping to Retailers in Japan - According to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Sony's stopped producing PlayStation 2s in Japan and ceased sending them to Japanese retailers. This means that the remaining stock is the last batch of new PlayStation 2s left.
  • AMD to Launch 95 Watt FX-8300 CPU  - The new CPU will run at 3.30/4.20 GHz and is able to reach the clock speed of the flagship FX-8350 (4.0/4.2 GHz). However, the new FX-8300 will only be rated at a TDP of 95 watts, versus a TDP of 125 watts for all but one other 8-core FX processors

  • Two-way multi-function USB drive makes device storage access easier  - The 600-GUSD flash drive can be accessed via a full USB plug at one end, and via a microUSB plug at the other. So, after using it on a PC, you can simply flip it on the other side if you want to connect it to your Android mobile device later. You can intuitively use it as some sort of universal external, portable storage device to almost any device or computer that you have at home. There's virtually no need to resort to USB adapters, which can be difficult to use, and may render the device unwieldy if it needs to be connected for a certain period of time.
  • NVIDIA Display Driver Service Attack Found - If you are a GeForce owner, you'll no doubt want to give this a read. The vulnerability is serious enough that it could give attackers administrator privileges on Windows PCs.
  • Google got over 50 million URL removal requests in 2012 - While Google has not yet offered up its own official year-end numbers, TorrentFreak has gone back and done some number crunching on its own. They claim that so far for 2012, Google has received requests to remove 51,395,353 URLs from its search results. The numbers also show that the amount of requests has continued its upward spiral.

  • Optical Disc Prices to Increase Nearly 50% in 2H13 - If you are a high demand user of optical discs, buying your stock of discs early in 2013 would be an advantage if you like a bargain. Prices are predicted to rise by almost 50% in the second half of 2013 due to halted production is 2012 and the subsequent restructuring of the industry. The takeaway? Stock up now if you still need optical discs *wink*
  • Senate Approves Warrantless Phone Tapping for Next Five Years - By a vote of 73 to 23, the US Senate just voted for the warrantless surveillance of American citizens until 2017. The vote, set to affirm to eradicate the FAA Sunsets Extension Act of 2012, means we'll be living with Bush-era spy laws for another half decade. In 2007, the Senate voted to grant blanket immunity to companies like AT&T, which conspired with the NSA to monitor American digital conversations without government oversight after 9/11. Today's vote continues that immunity, and provides further carte blanche for the American intelligence-gathering apparatus. Phone calls, texts, and emails are all fair game-and a judge doesn't have to give the OK, so long as it's in the name of counterterrorism. Which is a very easy guise

The WD RED 4TB review appears to be a screwup. They reviewed a 7K rpm RE-class enterprise storage drive and called it the RED 4TB... amateurs. The site has another review on it (but probably still amateurish) of the RE 4TB, which is a fairly interesting drive in its own right I suppose.

You would think but no.. I should have bought a drive over Xmas but I hoped the prices would become realistic in the New Year. So far all I see is WD and Seagate etc still raping people. I guess they see it as ok since Nvidia, ATI and anybody else making PC parts can charge lots for tech that has been sitting around for ages. Look how much an i7 goes for still. LOL! Well at least there is 1 positive, I haven't upgraded anything on my PC for years and it still runs like a charm anything I throw at it.

And then they wonder why sales are decreasing, lol.
I did not upgrade anything in years, neither - for the same reason.

Bought a Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive from Amazon for HALF PRICE, £66

Also bought the best gaming CPU bang for buck, Intel I5 3570K for £166. Overclockable for another couple of CPU upgrades, when it's needed. But not anytime soon.
Need to open your eyes :shock:
