Microsoft Targets Halo Online Modders - briefly

Microsoft has hit modders using leaked files from its recently announced Halo Online game with a DMCA takedown notice, TorrentFreak reports. Last week Microsoft announced the free-to-play online PC game for Russia only, and didn't promise that the game would be released outside that territory. This made some Halo fans a bit upset. Files from the game were subsequently leaked and a community-led modding team began working getting rid of the game's "geo-restrictions" and building a game client. The first signs of the game being modded outside of official channels came from a YouTuber known as "Noble," who uploaded footage after modders Gamecheat13 and Lord Zedd reportedly obtained a build of the title. Modders have been mucking about with the leaked Halo Online files to unlock features, with one team creating a game launcher called 'ElDorito.' But all that work came to screeching halt yesterday after Microsoft sent a DMCA takedown notice to Github, who was hosting the files. The site quickly complied. Microsoft sent the following notice to Github: We have received information that the domain listed above, which appears to be on servers under your control, is offering unlicensed copies of, or is engaged in other unauthorized activities relating to, copyrighted works published by Microsoft. "The above copyright work(s) [ElDorito] is being made available for copying, through downloading, at the above location without authorization from the copyright owner or exclusive licensee.
Now the page for the project offers only a notice: Repository unavailable due to DMCA takedown.

The repository is currently disabled due to a DMCA takedown notice. We have disabled public access to the repository. The notice has been publicly posted.
