Microsoft begins removing Copilot from Windows 11 apps - briefly

Microsoft has started removing prominent Copilot references from Windows 11 applications, beginning with the Notepad app in the latest Insider update. The dedicated Copilot button has been replaced by a new "Writing Tools" icon featuring a sparkly pen, which opens options for rewriting, summarizing, and changing tone. In Notepad's Settings, "AI features" has been renamed to "Advanced features," and users now get a simple toggle to disable all AI-powered experiences. This change reflects user feedback and Microsoft's earlier promise for a more careful integration of AI across the operating system. The update (version 11.2512.28.0) is rolling out to Insiders and can also be installed manually right away.
