Merry Christmas to All My Readers!
- briefly

Warmest thoughts and best wishes for a wonderful Christmas. May peace, love and prosperity follow you always! Christmas is very hectic at our house this year because we are going on vacation soon, but don't worry, I will be here for a few days and I will write the details in time :-) So, to be honest, there is not as much time for games and TV this year as there was in the Covid days. Besides, here in the Czech Republic there is a pretty bad flu epidemic (I myself was sick last week). But it's not Covid, it's just the return of the normal classic flu. Anyway, I'm looking forward to potato salad and schnitzels. I know in the USA or Asia they don't eat this, but here in our country it's a popular Christmas food. I mean, most people like carp with their salad, but I prefer the normal chicken and turkey schnitzel. That's just me :-) With the games, the movies, the books... I gotta get better. I couldn't really get into anything this year. I'd like to play BROK The Investigator by COWCAT Games at least for a while. The last adventure game from this small company Demetrios was really good, I liked the humor (my daughters played it with me). So BROK hopefully won't disappoint :-) What are you going to play my dear readers? :-)

The Information has said, behind a paywalled report

Merry Christmas to everyone!
My wife bought me a Logitech G29 + shifter, trackIR 5 and wheel stand. Only my first ever wheel after 33 years of gaming. I’ve been playing ETS2,ATS, Snowrunner, spintires and MudRunner on a gamepad so never too late lol

I don't want to hear about nvidia until they sell affordable high end cards with DVI.
FYI, DVI can do:
quote:
QXGA (2048×1536) @ 72 Hz with CVT blanking (2 × 163 MHz)
HDTV (1920×1080) @ 144 Hz[6]
WUXGA (1920×1200) @ 120 Hz with CVT-RB blanking (2 × 154 MHz)
WQXGA (2560×1600) @ 60 Hz with CVT-RB blanking (2 × 135 MHz)
WQUXGA (3840×2400) @ 30 Hz with CVT-RB blanking (2 × 146 MHz)
No need for DisplayPort shite.

I did mate. She’s also getting Christmas dinner and the whole shebang cooked cooked and done today and tomorrow.
Well 33 years of marriage and togetherness, if she didn’t love me (and I her) then it’s a funny old world -as they say
How about yourself. Anything your getting or wanted?
I also picked a shed load of cheap game sales on steam and fanatical gaming. OMSI 2 stuff for eg really like the slow nature of a bus driver

Congratulations on the Logitech G29 :-) Definitely one of the best things you can buy for the money. It comes with a shift lever or must be purchased additionally?

You've been together for 33 years? That's good! I've only been with my wife for 23 years, but I can write the same :-) Sometimes I wonder how she's stuck with me so long! Because functioning with me is definitely not an easy or very ordinary life :-)

Yeah the G29 we bought the bundle on Amazon, £208 inc 6 speed shifter
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Driving-Racing-Pedals-UK-Plug/dp/B01LSKLAOU/ref=asc_df_B00YUOVBZK/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=226500799598&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16705678851035566465&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046889&hvtargid=pla-386070767646&th=1
23 years is still a long time. Marriage is about growing and changing together. I’m nothing like the person i was when we met. That’s to be expected, throw another 10 years on that and you’ll changed again. Next year I’m the big 60! Like I was 27 when I met her….

Well, I want to upgrade our NAS.
You know, family pics, videos, games, movies, it's starting to fill up our current NAS - especially because I never delete anything :D
I was eyeballing 16 and 18 TB HGST drives. My better half is not technical though, so she has no idea what any of that means.
Anyhow, when I mentioned it to her and what 8 of these HDDs would cost, we agreed that it's not a good thing to do in the current economic situation.
Maybe next year ;-)
I still have my Logitech Momo Racing wheel.
I thought about giving it to my son, but the newer wheels are not that good, so I am still keeping it ;-)

Ironically, it’s my wife that does all the ‘backup and NAS’ in the house. She uses it for her company and, like yourself, keep lots vids and pics of our entire life together inc hols and moments etc.
She built it and maintains it. I access it. That’s about it
Btw HX, I love schnitzel. Lidl sells it. Bit greasy, but it’s nice.

Interesting! For some reason in our family women are not willing to touch any technology. "Dad will do it." It's been always like that.
As for the schnitzel, make your own - it will taste much better!:
Buy a whole boneless shoulder.
Slice it up to 5-10mm slices (I suggest your try the thinner ones first and go thicker only if you like it later).
Grab a meat beater and tenderize both sides of each slice thoroughly. (Do not beat is too much because the slice will fall apart.)
After beating, sprinkle a little salt on each side of each slice.
Put it in the fridge for 2-3 hours (so the salt takes into the meat).
Set three plates, one with flour, one with beaten eggs and the third with breadcrumbs.
Put a slice into the flour and make sure the flour sticks to it all around.
Place the slice into the eggs next - the egg will stick to the flour.
Place the slice into the breadcrumbs next - the breadcrumbs will stick to the egg.
Submerge into hot oil (150-160 degrees) and fry until golden brown.
Enjoy!

Wow, did you really plan on 8x 18TB NAS? That would give you about 126TB of RAID wow! I bought a new Synology this year and I have 4x 8TB WD RED Pro (+2x M.2 SSD 500GB as cache) and I find it quite sufficient so far (I have a little over 22TB disk array). It's true that at home I use the NAS only for multimedia (movies, TV shows, photos) and also a little bit for my wife's work and girls' school. I have my company data stored in the company, there I have some ancient server with OS Windows Server 2003. I'll have to upgrade it next year, but I'm still postponing it, everyone knows that.

No, I did not!
I usually double the capacity every 6-8 years or so.
I have 8x4TB drives, which is 24TB in RAID 6 - only 1.5TB free space left - so the next upgrade is due.
My choice for vendor is HGST - not WD.
There are no small (8-10TB) HGST HDDs on the market anymore.
That leaves the HC530 or HC550 drives, 14, 16 or 18TB drives.
I don't like the recording technology in the HC530, so that leaves the HC550 drives.
Considering the price per terabyte, the 18TB is better than the 16TB one.
In RAID 6, I get 108TB with 8 disks.
I could go with just 6 disks and get 72TB though, but then I feel the two parity drives are too much of a waste.
Also, I am not sure whether my Raid card supports the 18TB drives (
Adaptec 51645
). There is just no information available on this anywhere. So, if I go with 6 and can only use 12TB capacity, then I'll wish I ordered 8 drives ;-)
