- Post a comment A pair of Los Angeles, Ca., men were charged on multiple counts of copyright infringement tuesday in the wake of last months dramatic piracy crackdowns known as Operation Buccaneer, Operation Bandwidth, and Operation Digital Piratez. The men, who have been identified as Kentaga Kartadinata(29) and Mike Nguyen(26) were both members of the online piracy group known as "DrinkorDie" that gain infamy in the mid 90's for being the first "warez" group to crack and release Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system. The two men reportedly served as support personnel within the group, managing an email ring and some file servers where members could download illegal copies of various movies, games, and other software.
According to prosecutors, the two men plan to plead guilty as part of a plea bargain deal to try and get reduced sentences. Although the two men could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and fines of $250,000, their sentences will likely involve time served and smaller fines as federal authories attempt to convict more senior members of the group.
