Layoffs reported for America's Army dev team - briefly

Just one day after the release of America's Army 3, it appears that the development team for the free-to-play FPS has been downsized considerably. A representative for America's Army confirmed the news with Shacknews, noting that future development of the free-to-play PC military simulator will occur at the program office in Redstone Arsenal, AL. Exactly how many developers were affected is as yet unknown.
This consolidation will allow us to gain efficiencies between our public and government applications," the representative explained. " We appreciate all the hard work that every member of the America's Army team has contributed to the project, and we look forward to delivering future America's Army game releases in the months ahead.
The launch of the game itself has had its own issues due to massive amounts of players trying to sign into the servers:
We here at IGN ran into the same problems as many others. America's Army 3 is being digitally distributed on Valve's Steam service, and downloading and decrypting the game itself required several attempts. With the game installed, the next hurdle involves creating an account or logging into an existing account, as the authorization servers may time out on you.

Once you've logged in, the next big issue is actually trying to play the game. After creating a soldier profile, you have to go through basic training missions that familiarize you to life at boot camp. There's an obstacle course, then a weapons range where you learn to qualify on various weapons, including the Army's main assault rifle, the M16A4. One issue here is that the servers are so overloaded that even if you complete a mission and qualify to move on, your progress may not save properly to the servers, meaning you'll have to retry the mission later on for it to count. It's that, or else the game spends an eternity trying to contact the server to update your soldier account, or personnel jacket.

In an official statement, a spokesperson for America's Army told IGN, "The response from our community to the launch of America's Army 3 has been tremendous. At points during the day yesterday, we experienced over 20 million connections, which affected the ability to download, install and register to play the game. In addition, gameplay was affected by the stress on our servers. We are addressing these issues as quickly as possible and expect that our players will be able to enjoy the full America's Army playing experience for years to come."
Update: According to this post on the official forums there will be a hot fix coming soon for Uncle Sam's new shooter, America's Army 3.

If you are expecting a lot different from the last AA, don't look here. This game is like a port of AA2 to unreal 3. I played AA2 for a while and it was ok for awhile and got boring. AA3 same old same old and gfx are not much updated.
