The control in Klonoa 2 is just as good as in the original. The analog stick is supported, but Klonoa always runs at the same speed. As in the first game, Klonoa’s skill set is pretty limited; he can jump, briefly float or grab and throw the bulbous enemies. Just as in Klonoa, and the even older Nights, the player moves along 2D paths, although the world is rendered in 3D. The objective of each level (called a Vision in Klonoa parlance) is to collect loads of jewels to earn extra lives and sometimes find keys, levers, etc. to open doors and exits. Lots of platform jumping and enemy bashing are also involved. Occassionally, Klonoa mounts some sort of transport, and the game switches briefly to an over-the-shoulder 3D view. The game follows a pattern of about four brief sublevels followed by a boss character for each main area. The gameplay is very forgiving; Klonoa has several hitpoints, and hitpoint recharges are scattered generously throughout the levels. Also the ability to float for awhile after jumping can save Klonoa from fatal falls due to misjudged leaps. All in all, the gameplay seems designed with younger players in mind. [more]
