The chaps over at RTCW Files asked id's John Carmack (thanks VE3D) about what was behind the name of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and if it had anything to do with Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Here's John's reply:

It has nothing to do with Wolf. The "Enemy Territory" name is due to Splash Damage's multiplayer design skills being the drive behind the game. There could be other ET games in the future in different settings.

In related news, J.Carmack has unofficially confirmed that RTCW2 is still in construction. John C has replied to this email saying "that it's currently in construction but a very long way off from being released."
