Mad Doc (Star Trek Armada 2 maker) software has finally released promised screenshots of Jane's Attack Squadron, the upcoming next generation World War II flight combat simulation for the PC. The release date for the game will be in the first half of 2002.

Jane’s Attack Squadron will feature up to 14 flyable aircraft, each having an accurately modeled 3D cockpit with fully functioning dials and gauges. The game also boasts one of the most detailed aircraft damage systems in any aircraft simulation. Each aircraft is composed of multiple components -- each completely damageable -- and many which can also break off. Bullet holes also appear in the exact location of bullet strikes, ensuring that battle damage will never look the same way twice.
Signature aircraft are the top WW2 fighter-bombers, such as the American P-38, P-47 and P-51, as well as the German Fw-190, Me-262 and Bf-109. A variety of medium and heavy bombers are also featured, including the American B-17, B-24, Lancaster and the German Ju-88, with the ability in multiplayer for several players to simultaneously man different stations in the plane.

Currently, IL2-Sturmivok has been out in the shops for a couple of weeks now after its official release. And with the game coming out in the first half of 2002, people will most likely to be playing the same world war theme in IL2-Sturmivok, bullets appear when the planes are being fired upon, cockpit and external views are good in IL2, you can drop bombs, fire rockets, nice sound effects, lovely details, though, the quality of visual detail depends on your 3D hardware. Basically, what im trying to say is that Jane's Attack Squadron will have to be something really good to be able to topple other world war flight sims, it has to offer something new, unique, appeals to gamers, etc etc. Or else its just going to be the same as IL2 and by the time Janes Attack Squadron comes out, IL2 will be cheaper to own and may virtually offer the same thing as Jane's Attack Squadron.
